11 years ago was 2014 probably, which was hardly a horrible year for Germany.

The same Europe, under the exact same leadership that (among way too many other compromises) agreed to purchase more US weapons instead of buying EU-made ones? Sure…
The main one being Patriot air defense systems and missiles. The main issue with that is that Ukraine needed them yesterday. It is just impossible to replace those production capacity quickly. Although that is happening with SAMP/T and IRIS-T SLX. Some are also meet using less capable shorter range European systems like IRIS-T. For other systems, it is usually a similar story.

They built luxury cars instead. A lot of the skillset is pretty similar. The difference here is that engines and batteries and electric motors mostly require very different skills.

That is why the EU passed CBAM and the supply chain laws. If the EU can force China not to use slave workers, then it quickly changes the market.

The issue is that China has few viable markets for export left. They are in a trade war with the US, which has 25% of global nominal GDP, they themself have 16%. China has had military issues with Japan and India two massive trade blocks 3.5% of the global economy each. If you add to that the countries they have pissed of in the South China Sea you probably get to another 10% with good reasons to not allow Chinese products.
Given how much China exports, the EU is an incredibly important market with 18% of the global economy. It is also why Trump is such an idiot to piss of the EU. This could break China.

Also Chinese elites, which benefit from Chinese slave labor. After all the CCP party plenum is litterally the biggest meeting of billioniares in the world.

The interesting part is imho the 6.7% decline is cargo volume. When you want to cover large distances over land, trains are the best solution. Russia therefore uses them a lot for freight. So they end up being a pretty good indicator for the Russian economy.
Surprised Berlin is that low.

Wikipedia has a table of countries with German citizens. It is mainly Western democracies.

Germany and the EU need gas and it can be delivered via Nordstream from Russia. Paying for that is only fair. Obviously only as long as Russia does not fight large wars of aggression. That is why Nordstream was shut down for nearly a month before it got bombed. However Russia can change and having the ability to import Russian gas is very useful.

The bombing of the Nordstream pipelines did not stop Germany funding Russia via Nordstream, as Germany was not funding Russia via Nordstream at the time. The pipeline was shut down and remains so, even though one of the four pipelines was not bombed. Russian gas was flowing to the EU via Ukraine for years after the bombing of the Nordstream pipelines.

Denmark should just rename Greenland to Epstein Island and be done with it.

Lets hope the Amazon remains properly protected, but other then that it is really great news.
I am pretty sure HS2 will not be that bad. /s
