Please don’t body shame.

Hexbear is the best place on lemmyverse for trans people because that’s an incredibly low bar to clear, as it is in so many other places online and irl. Even before the Contrapoints posting this week there was already a thread on that mega in response to another incident lamenting the fact that we can’t even trust our cis hexbear comrades to not post transphobia. But at least in that case, he learned and apologized instead of posting excuses through it all.
Also the reason you’re getting clowned on for “transwoman” is that the spelling is used to distance us from womanhood and put us into a third gender category. Please use trans woman going forward.

Some of us briefly got to name our conditions and they’ll never forgive us for it

Needs wayyyyyyy more indigenous controlled land.

Wish it was AI datacenters tbh but hopefully those will at least fail on their own as energy prices climb.

IR stealth is very much a part of the F-35 and other 5th gen fighters but like radar stealth it doesn’t make the plane invisible. It just decreases the detection range and makes other countermeasures more effective.
A big obstacle for modern stealth aircraft is that if they get within imaging range of a an electro-optical targeting system, there’s not much they can really do other than using terrain masking as far as I’m aware.

Middle east spectator do say that they will have to wait for further evidence on this one. I am inclined to believe that we haven’t heard anywhere near the full story yet, but if there’s more to it then I expect we’ll find out in the coming days. The comment from a little bit before this one about a C-295 being spotted flying over western definitely makes my suspicions that this went worse than the US will admit go up a bit more.

Those are definitely flares in the footage. It’s definitely defending against something but not video evidence of a shoot down.

Same here, especially with the picture in the article. Glad they’re talking about heavy transport trucks.

Yes, r/UkraineRussiaReport was created in response though I haven’t browsed it in ages.

Lmfao I was looking for the radar

Did he kom at least?

I mentioned elsewhere in this thread that the F-35 does have a MAWS (missile approach warning system) that is designed to detect a missile approaching the plane. These don’t require the missile to be radar guided, they typically instead detect the IR signature of the exhaust plume of the missile’s rocket motor. Also, and AIM-9 should easily be detectable by the radar onboard the F-35, and from the video it looks like the missile approached from the front of the plane which is the perfect position to be detected by the radar. Either the radar was off and the missile approached from a blindspot of the MAWS, or something else really went wrong since the F-35 was just flying in a straight line and not dropping flares (it was flying like the pilot wasn’t aware that a missile was approaching)

Ya know I was thinking about this earlier in the conflict. At the time I thought it was just cope on my part and dismissed it.
Polymarket

I think I understand what you mean by not big hits, but the hit on the F-35 alone seems pretty huge. Even if it wasn’t shot down. If should at least force a change of tactics in the air over Iran. They will have to be more cautious.
What’s most interesting to me is that the plane is flying perfectly straight assuming the video is real. It’s not making defensive moves, and it’s not dropping flares. It seems like maybe they didn’t know that the missile was coming. The F-35’s radar and optical suite should be able to detect an incoming missile. I’m really curious what system the iranians used to achieve this.

Between this and the F-35 I’m suddenly in a great mood

The only evidence I’ve seen so far that it landed safely is a claim by the U.S. airforce. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that the hit was real since both sides have confirmed it, but nothing else yet because it looks like the U.S. is lying about losses.
Edit: Okay Iran claims to have only “severely damaged” it. If it was shot down over Iran I’d think that they’d know and would be spreading the word already so maybe it did manage to RTB. There have been many cases in the past of airplanes getting hit by a missile and surviving. It depends on where the missile exploded relative to the plane, how damaging the warhead of the missile is, how robust the plane is to damage, and a good bit of luck.

Thanks! I’m not sure how much the fire snake can maneuver but it otherwise sounds like a slightly larger, longer range version.
