Historically, the marines have shot people the LAPD wouldn’t have during '92. Marines are taught and trained to kill people in a war or conflict, they aren’t peacekeepers or police. They’re soldiers. The most infamous example is the LAPD asking a couple marines to “cover me” when they were going to some kind of domestic violence thing. The marines responded like they were trained, “cover me” means lay down suppressive fire and let the person move ahead. They shot a house with kids and a family in it. And of course they did, these are soldiers. Not like the LAPD is better, especially now after 30 years of militarization, but marines are still hotheads who will shoot and kill people because that’s what theyre trained and drilled to do.
