It was OK. I thought it was kinda’ sloppy though. I didn’t like the fairytale (almost Marvel with his Superman powers) style it had where it’s just constantly reinforcing how innocent he is. I haven’t read the book, but from adaptations or incorporation of Frankenstein/'s monster I’ve seen it feels like the original story has way more going on with it.

Another Marvel aspect I felt was how straight-forward a lot of the dialogue and visual metaphors were. Which has me wonder how much films going forward are going to have this kind of storytelling.

Also maybe fantasy FPS/RPG-FPS games like Hexen, Heretic, etc. They’re pretty straightfoward and pretty fun with okay-ish worlds to explore.

Virtual Hydlide, though you need to look up the mechanics/tips briefly before playing. It’s otherwise a pretty straight-forward fantasy RPG with OK exploration. King’s Field/Shadow Tower games too, though maybe just the PS1 games. Not sure if the later ones get complicated.

I remember the DS/PSP had a bunch of straight-forward 3D dungeon crawler games like Dungeon Siege, although maybe they had complicated loot 'n grind systems I’m unaware of, but that era of handheld RPGs seems prime for exploration-based RPGs without stupid amount of mechanics. Maybe the portable Phantasy Star games too on DS/PSP, etc. 3DS too, probably, with like Ever Oasis and stuff. Actually, probably Wii too with stuff like Fragile Dreams, Final Fantasy Fables, Rune Factory, Opoona, etc.

If I play more arcade shmups I might just set some limit of like 6 playthroughs of going all the way through, credit-feeding as needed, and seeing how much I can lower it by the end of the 6 plays. Most are 20-30 minutes long so that’s like almost 3 hours of playtime and it’d be interesting to keep track of it all kinda’ like how Jrose11 does his Pokemon solo speedruns.

Played 1941 Counter Attack, trying to cut down how many credits I need to complete. I can do stage 1 (out of 7) on a single credit and like half of stage 2. But I still need about 10 credits total to beat it (down from like 15 though). I can definitely get it lower but no idea how much lower and since I don’t play arcade shmups (or if I do it’s home ports with set difficulties) I’m not really sure where I wanna’ set my goal for it.

I don’t know what these people spend their time with their kids are actually doing. I get it if both parents are working and stuff and also when they’re under 2 years old, but I think they think their kids want to be their own personal friend and they need to spend all their time with them, which is not how it’s been from like year 0 until like 2010. I had a brother and a toy room to do stuff, I wasn’t watching Barney with my parents every moment of my child life.

That’s pretty much their argument. As people get older they’re facing motivational or time issues playing difficult games, it’s not an issue of sheer reflexes. And even games that people think require reflexes are using a lot of learned/developed predictive behaviour instead.
