I don’t know much at all about the Bible, but is there a reason why in almost all the translations (and interpretations) it appears assumed that the reader is a man themselves? Like, what if a woman is reading? What does it mean then?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that you mess up frequently enough that you should know better, but you continue to do it anyway?
7·9 months agoI always struggled with that word too, but remembering it like that will probably fix that issue for me. I don’t really have many opportunities to use the word “medieval” though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there an actor you can't stand? Do they have any exceptions?

2·9 months agoI actually didn’t even remember him in that until now, I suppose he was alright, but I agree, the role wasn’t exactly exercise in acting.

24·9 months agoJared Leto (I don’t know why, I just really don’t like him), but there are no roles of his that I like. In fact, he has ruined a few movies for me. I was actually really excited about Tron: Ares until the casting was revealed.
Is it actually federating yet?

181·9 months agoThat is insanity. Meanwhile I sit in my backyard right now that is so overgrown I can barely see my large dog… I should probably be shot too. They brought a tank to a code enforcement situation.

Already setup! I think the first thing I want to do is setup retrieval augmented generation. Several of my hobby ideas will require it I think. Started trying to read up on it a couple days ago and I had a serious lack of focus going on.
I’ve been kind of hoping to come across a super simple way to implement it, but haven’t exactly looked much yet.
Cool! I’ll subscribe. I’ve got about a dozen projects I’d like to build with Ollama, if I’ll get the motivation and free time who knows?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I the only one who thinks social media has destroyed the spirit of the internet?
6·11 months agoExactly. The algorithm is literally designed to stop people from thinking about what they actually care about. Of course that has caused deterioration of every aspect of human society to some degree.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I the only one who thinks social media has destroyed the spirit of the internet?
7·11 months agoThe algorithm(s) and “For You” pages I think have done more damage to my ideal internet than anything else ever has.
I have a feeling that someday in the future we’ll also see that the algorithm was also responsible for damage to the human mind and society as well.
Wow, I haven’t seen that in like two decades!
Clutch is one of those bands that I can always rely on, always true to the rock & roll. I’ve seen them around two dozen times over the course of almost 3 decades and they never disappoint. And Neil Fallon is my absolute favorite lyricist. The way he weaves words is like candy for my lexophile brain, especially from the album Robot Hive/Exodus.
I was diagnosed with with ADD in 1992 at 12 years old, and again by a different doctor at 16, but it was the 90s and “we all had ADD!”, at least that’s what I told myself for the following two and a half decades. I basically gaslit myself into completely dismissing the diagnosis from two separate doctors several years apart. Of course, I also struggled with basically every aspect of what I would have considered “normal life” all the while. I mean, barely able to exist in the Normal World ™ and always wondering why the hell I couldn’t just “get my shit together”.
Well, spoiler, it was the ADHD. The incredible thing is, I know about a dozen other people my age who all have the same story as mine. We made a joke of it all and ended up really screwing ourselves over as the punchline.

“What I can tell, however, is that hating on the tech itself distracts people from blaming those actually responsible, the humans doing the enshittification. The billionaires, dictators…”
^– SattaRIP^
That’s something I’ve been trying to convince people of that I converse with about LLMs and similar generative technology. I’ve met so many people that just throw a big blanket of hate right over the entire concept of the technology and I just find it so bizarre. Criticize the people and corporations using the tech irresponsibly! It’s like a mass redirection of what and who is really to blame. Which I think is partially because “AI” is something that sort of anthropomorphizes itself to a large portion of society and most people think the “personality within” the technology is responsible for the perceived misdeeds.
I figure when all is said and done and historians and researchers look back on this time, there will be a lot to learn about human behavior that we likely have little grasp of at the moment.

I was really expecting the “aliens” to be Pakleds. Like maybe some extra smart, extra mean Pakleds.
