hankthetankie [none/use name]@hexbear.netto technology@hexbear.net•Thinking about ditching Windows, finally. Thoughts?English7·8 days agoYou can also triple (or more) boot. If you can I would recommend using separate disks. just to avoid any issues , but perfectly doable with partitioning.
I would recommend :
Steam OS for your games. (Or one of the others in this thread)
Backup if Linux is not enough: Windows 11 ameliorated gaming playbook.
A stable debian distro for everything else. Like peppermint 0S. ( You can probably run steam from here as well , but if you want things separate)
Except on the rare occasion when there’s fresh bread in the morning. Over the entire kitchen and living room. And a pile of dishes that won’t be done until there is no utensils left.

There are still DDR fridges in use. Nothing today will compare. My fantasy would be ban it under penalty of led poisoning to the back of the skull. And bill them for the cost.
But from a consumer perspective today, if you want something connected , do your research first and only go with something that can run Foss firmware. For routers there are openwrt tomato and others. For home automation there is home assistant etc.

hankthetankie [none/use name]@hexbear.netto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Thoughts on needing, using, and changing a "home" VPN exit country, in the wake of increasingly restrictive internet laws.English3·10 days agoNot sure I follow the problem here. Is it easier in the countries you are in to get blocked for using vpns? I mean if the goal is to access games and stuff i would just use a good vpn , mullvad is the only one i still have good trust in.
Start using onion sites for sensitive stuff. If you use a always on vpn , then you dont have to worry about state actors seeing that you are using tor.
The thing you really should watch it for is your phone. If you can the best is to use a phone without sim card and with GOS on it, preferably with a broken papertrail and no sim card use previously. If you need internet on the go use a sim card in a travel router and connect that via vpn to your devices. But no tech solution would save you from user error of course.
And use a secure email service , I use tuta wich never complaints about my vpn. Other stuff sure but i dont miss those sites. Good ones will lift any blocks if you ask.
VPS is of course an option , but it does have the downside of not being able to blend in with the crowd.
For the legal issues yeah UK is a bad option. But any EU country should be fine even if they in the eyes programme. Germany have decent privacy laws still. Iceland as well. But for me I just use another closer to home. I trust mullvad enough (and they dont know anything about me in form of payments or identification)
And stop using services that blocks you. There are alternatives for a lot.

And you are free to sync it how you wish , syncthing is great . I left proton earlier since I don’t trust them , but never used the proton pass at all.
hankthetankie [none/use name]@hexbear.netto World News@lemmy.ml•Russian troops liberate Tolstoy community in Donetsk region over past dayEnglish1·12 days agoNo i noticed you haven’t read Lenin , he had a few things to say about imperialism. So before you try to define what a Leninist is , or more specifically what a Marxist Leninist is you should read it. Or maybe just see what the people in Donetsk have to say for it.
Even if you are a liberal who always are against all wars except the current one, supports any liberation forces unless they actually isn’t angels or have a proper gender diversity. I would give even you critical support if you did something worthwhile instead of just following CIA talking points. No one thinks Putin or Russia is anti fascist. They are however killing Nazis which is a whole lot better than yours both side argument that always are de facto support for the status quo.Again why do you know better than the people in Donetsk and rest of eastern Ukraine that rather see themselves as part of Russia and see Russia as liberators that stopped the genocide there?
Perhaps you should be less smug and actually do a deeper analysis of the situation that led to the war? If you did you would quite clearly see that the people of Ukraine are suffering from western imperialism and the war that the west started. And if you actually had a backbone you would also see which side that you have a minicule possibility to effect. But I guess it’s easier to have talkingpoints about orcs instead.

hankthetankie [none/use name]@hexbear.netto World News@lemmy.ml•Russian troops liberate Tolstoy community in Donetsk region over past dayEnglish1·13 days agoOf course it’s not and I get your point , Russia sucks. However critical support against the western imperialism is wanted. if west gets their way they will take over. It’s like a turf war all over the planet. Would you want a world were US imperialism and fascism stands unopposed? I wouldn’t. I’ve rather have a balance of terror than just terror. Even if I don’t like the players of this game which they so psychoticly enjoy playing with us. Besides that there is the fact that one side has a more expansional agenda than the other one.
Norway seems weird since it’s a NATO country
