Looking forward to your retrospective. I’m really happy with this primary win for a leftist candidate even if I don’t live in the US. It shows our cause is popular among the population and contributes to fighting off pessimism we sometimes see in our spaces.

You are uninformed on France politics and especially Mélenchon. He is not communist. He was a Trotskyist when he was very young but then pivoted and joined the socialist party. He held the education ministry under Chirac/Jospin government and is a committed reformist. He truly thinks election are the way to reform the current system.

FI is not classified as far left by any organism with credibility. The current FI program is less radical than the one from Mitterrand back when he won the presidency (no nationalization for example). The program is a social democrat/Keynesian one.

Despite this I still think hes the best chance for France and I think hes more radical than what their program lets on.

He also has some weird nostalgia for France imperialism claiming that he is proud France is present in all oceans for example (Thanks to France’s colonies)

Having said all that I’m really fond of the guy and what he did to preserve the left in France and raise a generation of more radical militants through his Parti de Gauche and then La France Insoumise.

Everybody is tariffed as the US imposed a 10% blanket tariff. However, there is still a 2.5B USD trade deficit with Russia, so I would have expected to see more than the 10% blanket especially if we apply the apparent formula they use.

Not sure if other countries in a similar position as Russia have also been spared additionnal tariffs.

I’m not familiar with this polling institute but in the past years French polling companies have consistently underestimated LFI numbers and overestimated RN numbers. (If you look at who owns these polling companies this makes sense)

Liberals are currently governing with RN tacit approval and passing many of their texts. This would make no sense for them.

It might be hard as the sentence is applied immediately even if she appeals and appealing it does not stop the sentencing. So she would need to appeal and win it before 2027. From what I’ve read about the case it seems highly unlikely she wins in appeal as there is strong evidence against her and her party, but we’ll see.

I wonder who they’ll put as frontrunner for the 2027 if this is not overruled. Bardella is out of the question the guy was already crumbling on live tv during the European elections.
