If it was, then it spectacularly backfired. Support for open-weight models is greater than ever before, both from the general public and tech giants.
In the wake of OpenAI agents attacking Hugging Face, Nvidia has recruited a new posse of partners to promote open source models as the security solution the industry needs. The AI arms dealer announced the foundation, the Open Secure AI Alliance, in a blog post today, describing the mission of the group being “to ensure defenders everywhere have open, frontier tools they can trust and control.”
Partners in the group are numerous, ranging from established tech giants like Microsoft, Red Hat, HPE, IBM, and Adobe to newer groups like Palantir, SpacexAI, Hugging Face, and The Linux Foundation. What all the founding members have in common, Nvidia said, is that they agree open source AI models are a fundamental part of modern cybersecurity, just like prior open source tech has been for the infosec space.
Tech giants link hands to praise open AI models after OpenAI - Hugging Face attack
Edit: typo fix

I guess it depends on where you are from. Data protection is taken relatively seriously where I come from (Germany), and dashcams are heavily regulated (in theory). Dashcam footage must be non-continuous and triggered by specific events, e.g., a collision. It is not meant to be saved or archived without a valid reason.

They proposed a device that has a stylus for input, specifically for handwritten note-taking. You don’t make a convincing case with regard to computers in general allegedly not being suited for “ordinary classroom instruction”. A computing device can be designed in such a way as to engage the (as you call them) “motor portions” of the brain and not be a distraction, don’t you think?

Or you can have a smart board? It’s hard to tell what your point is here.

Disagree. The Vision Pro is one of the few remaining products where Apple has a tangible advantage over its competitors and where there is no clear, equivalent alternative from another manufacturer (at its level of quality).

Because smaller countries often act entirely egotistically, and their particular interests have ramifications for millions upon millions of people from other member nations. That a country of a million can take a union of 450 million hostage should be unacceptable for the EU.

What utter bs. These people were killed by a crazy islamist, not the government. You have totally lost the plot if you think that queer people are “enslaved” in Germany.

Nonsensical quote, discs are also digital.

It is imo much more disturbing to see people publicly call out their downvoters and provoke a witch hunt. If any, that behaviour is antisocial and most definitely downvote-worthy.

Space Haven
Would it? Perhaps it wouldn’t oxidise as fast, but copper is more conductive.

What I find more disrespectful is people that join the greater community, but who have no appreciation for the giant amount of philosophical and political (on-top of the technical) work that was done to enable the relatively free/libre and open environment we have with Linux-based operating systems today. I find it so sad that GNU haters have successfully established divisive memes such as the Stallman GNU/Linux copypasta. We owe so much to the GNU project and GPL license, and I think we would be in a much worse place today if Linux had not been licensed under the GPL. I am fundamentally opposed to people who try to move the distributions into a less free direction. Some may see this as elitism, but this opposition is not born out of a desire to dominate or humiliate anyone, but rather to protect the many great achievements of the FLOSS movement.

How did you get the idea that only 1 million people know of Firefox? I’d say the true figure is at least two, perhaps even three orders of magnitude greater than that. Browser user statistics don’t really say much about that.

Nonsensical argument. Just because a piece of software is FLOSS and non-Google, it is not automatically a “weekend side quest”. Big Tech is very happy that these false equivalencies have spread as well as they did, but they don’t hold a kernel of truth, at least not anymore.
Put LineageOS on it!

Classic Lemmy comment

So what? Doesn’t refute their point. People that actually care will not have a Smart TV or other surveillance tech at home, if they can avoid it.

Main-line Linux phones are really not the way, at least at the moment. Android is fine, AOSP really is an amazing project and easily one of the most impressive software projects ever advanced by humanity. AOSP-derivatives like LineageOS or GrapheneOS are just as much FOSS as any traditional Linux distribution.
That’s one hell of a claim. In fact such an outrageously bold one that you shouldn’t be able to post a comment like that without citing a reputable source.
