There’s a term “security theatre” for a similar kind of situation. Like a simple latch lock on your garden gate won’t miraculously keep out thieves, however if you have your gate latched and your neighbour doesn’t, they’re going to target your neighbour. In my mind it’s the same kind of thing - those who really want to use (maybe even hide the use of) AI, they’re going to do it anyways. But those that are on the fence, or for whom AI is just the easy “no risk high reward” option, then those people would be swayed to reduce or even eliminate AI use.
TBF we’re one successful lawsuit away from corpo dropping AI, all we need is someone in court of law to invalidate their IP or copyright, and they’re gonna scramble to protect their bottom line. Can you imagine if Adobe had developers use AI to work on Photoshop, and then that lawsuit would set the precedent for people to be able to claim Photoshop for free? The pearls would be hella clutched

71·19 days agoIt seems like a really interesting idea, but yea, reaching critical mass is hard. Having a module instead of a full rewrite would be too big indeed, but the module mentioned in the comments would be a better idea. Sadly having something even half as big as AO3 would be quite the effort to maintain.

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•How would a Solarpunk society handle law enforcement and military?
8·1 month agoMost cases the reason for rape is less about urges, and more about power (with a dash of opportunity). There’s also societal predispositions baked into the way that people are raised. If your parents, friends, neighbours, media, etc, all treat rape as a horrid thing that nobody would do, it doesn’t even pop into people’s heads. And even if someone does it, they get shunned, though in the general the way solarpunk societies are presented also include community support, so both the perpetrator and the victim would get support. For the perpetrator, I’d assume there’d be an involved process of the why - what’s making them feel powerless, or making them think hurting others is okay, or whatever. They might need counselling, rescue from an abusive situation of their own, medication, or whatever not. It’s incredibly rare to have people who genuinely cannot help themselves, in which case they’d need additional support just like anyone else who has troubles that affect themselves and those around them. There’s sadists who are sadistic due to their own trauma, there’s those that are such due to mental health issues, and there’s very few who are like that due to the way they were born. In the last case, it could be a combined “enforced” support, as well as general community perception of “ah, that’s sadistic George, be careful around him and don’t be alone with him, otherwise he bakes a mean cottage pie” kinda stuff, if that makes sense?

Bicycling@lemmy.world•Looking for earphones for bicycling and callingEnglish
21·1 month agoProbably not a good idea. A big part is being able to hear when something (like a car) comes up behind you. Bone conductive would be better for that, and can still wear a hat to keep your ears warm, but still hear if there’s any danger. Sanoto is the common brand, Open Run could work as well, but it depends on your location and what’s being sold.

People can have more than one problem. Last time I checked, humans aren’t 2D. Or even if that’s the main reason the person went to therapy, perhaps they weren’t looking for a “how do I turn this frown upside down” solution, instead hoping to get some advice on how to better channel their frustrations, or gain clearer focus, or just to have someone to help sort out own thoughts. There can be many reasons.
Is the reason why I have a Gmail. It’s the same one I’ve had for a long time, last time I checked it, the unread emails count was past 9999. I wonder what Google thinks of me 🤔

Well what do people expect, it’s a cash grab series milking a dead cow, of course the focus is on getting every last penny/watch/stream out of gullible sods rather than actual quality
