Went to a McDonald’s at an airport recently. $8 for fries and a sweet iced tea.

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•99% of CEOs Expect AI-Driven Layoffs in the Next Two YearsEnglish
10·3 天前I never even thought about this. Good callout.
Erotic is when everyone involved is into it. It turns vulgar when one person isnt.

World News@quokk.au•Foreign business owners face frantic scramble to leave Japan amid tighter visa rulesEnglish
3·7 天前Japan has a notoriously insular economy as well with rules and guidelines that are borderline ancient. If you kick out the talent all you would be left with is underskilled workers operating under archaic law. You will not be able to compete on the global stage.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you honestly tired of people bitching about by this point?English
72·8 天前This is a pretty bad take. It is the same as saying “I don’t care that these workers are underpaid and overworked - just let me (other people) enjoy the game.” No, bitch. The industry keeps getting worse because people who don’t know or care keep feeding them money. Gaming for many people is an escape from reality, an interactive way for them to escape a rather harsh reality. Morally righteous people can’t stomach when that escape was created or funded by the people they are trying to escape from.
People complain because they are passionate about it. This goes for the entire thread - if you are tired of hearing people bitch about it, don’t just plug your ears. Do something about it or piss off.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Professional software engineers of Lemmy, are code reviews still a thing in the age of "AI" assisted coding?English
9·8 天前This may explain why the same code review feedback needed to be written in every single PR made by our Indian offshore team. Either they didn’t give a shit, were incapable of learning, or used AI (which implies not giving a shit). I don’t understand how people can have so little pride in their work. Please do not drag other people down because you don’t want to do your job.
I remember selling a bag of skittles in elementary school for $10. Naturally I had to give the money back, and naturally I did not get my skittles back.

Transfem@lemmy.blahaj.zone•[cw: depression and suicide ideation] really bad mental side effects from spiro?English
2·9 天前Spiro is normally prescribed to people with enough water in their body to have elephant feet. If you take it when this isn’t the case you are going to have a bad time. If you insist on taking it make sure you remain hydrated.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla falls out of China's EV top 10 as BYD surgesEnglish
5·10 天前Nothing is going to happen to the stock, unfortunately. Too many rich people would lose too much money if it tanked, so they will keep it overinflated and overvalued by any means necessary.

Programming@programming.dev•‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Package Manager Where This Regularly HappensEnglish
28·12 天前A much simpler solution is to add all of the basic stuff into the base library so that people don’t need to include 50 packages to do stupidly simple stuff, but Javascript has shown very little desire to harden itself or grow. They have relied on community contribution to fill their missing design holes and now it is biting them in the butt.

LinkedinLunatics@sh.itjust.works•The companies that don't allow you to use AI!English
108·15 天前Are we not discussing the last comment? The AI projects got killed by compliance, meaning they were a security or legal concern. This guy thinks these people should be scooped up and elevated.
AI tech bros are just asking for failure. They are gambling on unproven technology and calling it the next coming of Christ. If they were right, they will make just as much money as any other non-ai company. If they are wrong they lose their entire company and their business model, and they lose employees who k ow how to solve critical problems when their unmonitored and liability free robot goes rogue. The pros do not outweigh the cons.

News@lemmy.world•A U.S. citizen is suing ICE for arresting him twice. He just got arrested a third time.English
26·16 天前It is sad how ICE treats legal citizens with no criminal history the same as how police treat deadly criminals, yet for some reason both turn their heads when the illegals and criminals are running the country.
And gambling IS fraud since the house fixes it.
This is a line only few care about. Millions will blindly and gladly give their information over and happily play in the walled gardens. They see privacy focused people as old men yelling at clouds (pun intended).

LinkedinLunatics@sh.itjust.works•Linkedin has replaced job search function with AI chatEnglish
51·19 天前I used it at the beginning of the year after their regular searches returned completely unrelated results. The AI search actually improved the quality of the results returned on the first 5 pages of results by a pretty significant amount. It still needs work, but my overall impression is positive (even if I loathe AI with a burning hot passion).
