Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does "learning to make beef jerky" count as a hobby for someone wishing to grow their hobbies? Or is it more accurately described as a culinary skill similar to barbecuing or slow-cooking or smoking?
1·4 days agoI dont know, I think repetition is also part of something being a hobby. If I eat an expensive piece of meat once, is that really a hobby of mine?

3·4 days agoSo your decision for an activity over the next decade or so depends on whether some strangers would label it as a hobby or part of cooking?
Is this some copypasta I dont know?

14·4 days agoWow where the f do you come from? Must be one hell of a neighborhood. I dont think your comment is true even in the worst ghettos though.
Also there are not “tens of millions of hardcore drug addicts” in the US. Maybe if you count alcohol and weed, but thats not my definition of hardcore.
I mean it kinda is your fault as in you can change it with enough willpower, but just like with smoking tobacco, constantly being exposed to advertisement and temptation is definitely not your fault and governments need to do something about it.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The local supermarket takes protein bar protection. Anyway does anyone know how to open these cases ?
2·4 days agoFunny how you completely left out (sweet)potatoes, paprika, carrots and other vegetables with as low as 2g of protein per 100kcal (which may make up a big portion of a vegans intake) and meat with 15+g per 100kcal.
Wheat products being pretty close to begin with sounds nice but it still means they are too low on protein and those definitely make up a large portion of most peoples calorie intake.
I know people who ate bread and spaghetti bolognese every day during uni, and just leaving out the minced meat would definitely drop them below recommended levels.
I get what you mean though, my comment was misleading, you probably wont have a deficiency when eating normally (which means diversely, so still paying attention), but I would still say it is way easier to hit the recommended levels with meat, they just dont need to think about it, most people eat way more meat than necessary anyway. Also, spending some time thinking about your eating habits and nutrition intake to get a balanced diet is way healthier than simply supplementing protein, I did not mean that thats what I recommend.

4·4 days agoIts fascinating how much effort some people put into writing complete bullshit in a fancy way. Or maybe its a bot? Probably is…
But just to make sure noone parrots this bullshit: Carbohydrates, fat, minerals, water are all NOT protein and they make up a much larger fraction of most living organisms than protein. Just because most plants contains at least 1% protein doesnt mean it will satisfy the human need for it.

31·4 days agoPlants are protein.
Are you high?
Those protein powders the brahs eat are from plants.
This is plain wrong. Most protein powders are not vegan, especially whey protein which is said to be the most bioavailable.

75·5 days agoVegetarians and especially vegans need to either supplement protein or make sure to eat lots of protein-rich stuff like chickpeas or lentils.
Thats right, but games like Baldurs Gate or KCD2 still take a lot of time. Its not like shifting the priority to making a better game makes it take much less time to develop. If you abandon graphics altogether maybe, thats where indie comes into play. But AAA need to appeal to much bigger groups of people.
You have that option. Theres literally thousands of such games, unlike 20 years ago. But this opinion doesnt seem to be the norm, otherwise AAA wouldnt still be a thing.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Amount of paper I used in one school yearEnglish
1·6 days agoThis might seem a lot to you but that amount of wood could barely heat an apartment for an hour.
In terms of wasted resources this is pretty neglectable, especially considering that education is among the better things to waste resources on.
But for the record Im not saying we arent wasting huuuge amounts of paper, especially for advertisement, just trying to put it into perspective.
Verdammt, hätten wir das mal bedacht als die Mehrheit letztes Mal gefragt wurde welche Gesetze sie einführen würde.
If you keep it up it will be ready for harvest by the time your kids retire! :P

Since I started watching subbed like 15 years ago, dubbed sounds so unbelievably ridiculous. It hurts my ears when I hear dubbed Anime.
