What about vegans that don’t have pets on the grounds of not keeping animals at all?

We can play this whataboutism game all day long but at least vegans get to sleep at night knowing they’re not directly contributing to animal suffering, mass emissions and antibiotic resistance just to be able to eat some le bacon made from poorly treated, tumor ridden, "fed back" pigs…

You know I’ve been thinking about loss and it’s usage on the internet and at this point I think we’ve jumped the shark - what started as a way to express dissatisfaction with the way an issue was handled - has now turned into a “haha loss funny” meme - which kinda takes the piss out miscarriage - a very real issue that affects a lot of people. Maybe I’m just getting old but I feel we should bring this meme to greener pastures…

Does trapping Palestinians in Gaza, advocating for the war crime of collective punishment by stopping their water and food supply in favour of bombing civilians (“not a gram of humanitarian aid, but hundreds of tons of explosives from the Air Force”) a mistake as well? What about Ben-Ari’s comments that Palestinian children have brought this upon themselves? What about when Israel directly funded Hamas to undermine more peace oriented groups like the PLO (even after they recognized Israel’s sovereignty), was that a mistake too? At what point do these “mistakes” become genocidal intent in your opinion?

  • Same reason I don’t trust it - imagine rating fking BBC (the literal pro-state violence, austerity supporting, anti-immigration governmental mouth piece as “left-center”)

It just distorts people’s perception of what political biases are and makes them complacent by relying on an automated bot to do the important work of using your own judgment for what constitutes as moral or justified.

By letting it platform itself on lemmy, it’s basically inserting itself as the de facto expert on the topic - so for example, people overseas might see BBC rated as left-center and highly factual and start believing that wanting to “secure your borders” is a thing that UK leftist want. Well excuse me if I don’t want a privately owned (even if open source) US company deciding what political views others should have.

That gender is at least partially a social construct and even if you have XY chromosomes and you’ve been brought up as a woman you shouldn’t be forced to live as a man in case you do a chromosomal test and it turns out you have XY chromosomes.

Imagine the opposite - you’re an XX man with a penis and you’ve lived as a man your whole life and then you do a random chromosomal test and somebody tells you “you see I know you have a penis and I know you’re fine being a man but your chromosomes says you’re “female” so we have to chop off your dick and you have to grow titties so you can fit into the binaries we’ve established because it’s too hard for others to believe you’re a man”

  • “Individuals who do not trigger an alert have their image and biometric data deleted immediately which is irretrievable"

“This is a function that has been built into the software which has been tested independently by the National Physics Laboratory. We would like to reassure the public that the data is irretrievable once deleted.”

Why would a governmental agency responsible for measurements and standards be put in charge of verifying cybersecurity functionality??

Also what about false positives? Do those innocent people get their data stored? And for how long?

There’s something extremely unsettling about the police being able to issue an arrest warrant on anyone and then use surveillance to arrest them anywhere. I can hear bootlickers already saying “don’t commit crimes and you’re fine” but I wonder if they would have used the same argument against the suffragettes…
