an astonishing amount of the time just disabling javascript entirely works great. It just worked for me today on a local news article with a slightly above average tenacity paywall and a long tumblr post trying to force me to make an account. I love ublock origin, just click the little script icon, refresh, and done.
my go to is still firefox reader mode out of habit but its kinda janky, similar to many of the hacks recommended in the OOPs (often requires an additional refresh, or timing it to get into reader mode before the paywall loads, noscript is probably better
Reader mode on FF mobile also breaks the Javascript pop up ones. Additionally, sometimes just opening in private browsing/incognito will also break it if they allow a limited number of free articles per month.
