Share your shave of the day!
Didn’t have time to old hiker up my samples so back to the SSL kill. A bit of dedication and shaving more than once a week and I could probably kill it before Christmas
You can do it!
Baby steps. First aim is to log every shave in here.

- Brush: Omega - 10048 boar
- Razor: Rockwell - 6C (R3 plate)
- Blade: Bic - Chrome Platinum (3)
- Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber
- Post: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber AS Splash
- Post: Stirling - Glacial Unscented Post Shave Balm
- Frag: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber EdP
I definitely overloaded my brush and had a bit of a hard time getting enough water into the lather. After a bit of work, though, it developed nicely.
I’m so glad it’s the weekend, but somehow my day is full of responsibilities already. At least I smell great!
Happy Saturday y’all. ✌️
Saturday, October 26, 2024: Tag der Fahne
- Brush: Yaqi 24mm Synthetic Panda
- Razor: King C. Gillette DE Razor
- Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (28)
- Lather: Haslinger Algae
- Postshave: Williams Aqua Velva
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
Today is the Austrian National Holiday – the day of the flag, which commemorates when the last Soviet soldier left the country in 1955. I used my only remaining Haslinger soap to commemorate, and combined it with a blade produced in Russia.
Have a good evening!
That soap sounds very interesting! Does it have algae and seaweed as ingredients?
They list fucus vesiculosus extract as one of their ingredients. Unfortunately, I don’t smell it at all in the soap - I would love to have something that smells like the sea at the French Channel or Atlantic coast.
That’s interesting that it was the original source of iodine!
I guess I wouldn’t think that it was a particularly strong scent. Agreed though, I’d love a real briny scented soap.
26.10.2024 - Saturday Strathcona shenanigans
- Brush: AP Shave Co. black & clear handle w/ 30 mm Tuxedo Fan knot
- Razor: Leaf Thorn
- Blade: snapped KCG
- Lather: MacDuff’s Soap Co. - Old Strathcona (sample)
- Post-Shave: OAM sensitive skin toner; Capanova Natural aftershave repair balm
-> 2 passes on the dome, 1 for the neck and cheek lines. A really great shave!
Hadn’t posted in a while since a few shaves were boring shower shaves with a cartridge. Feels good to use something proper again! I felt in the mood for a barbershop scent, but couldn’t decide - so I used a chunk of the huge sample @sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social graciously provided to us for BVWSC N°2. I lathered it up in a new candle coaster I got myself (the old lid I’ve been using has finally RIP’d). Lo and behold, it worked great. MacDuff’s base is really a treat and gladly I experience no irritation from the Oak moss.
Today’s aftershave balm is a new one I bought on Friday, it’s by a natural cosmetics brand that seems to be on clearance sale. The balm has a gel-like texture and absorbed very quickly. It unfortunately contains alcohol, but also lots of skin food ingredients to balance that out. Only downside is that it makes my dome shine like I polished it, so it’s only getting used for late shaves 😅
Macduffs’ base is truly fantastic. I’m glad the oakmoss is not irritating to you.
Thanks for suggesting it! Such a unique take on the barbershop genre and a very good base on top 👍🏻

Razor: Thiers Issard Évidé Sonnant 6/8" Extra Hollow

Lather: Los Jabones de Joserra - Noir - Soap

Aftershave: Declaration Grooming - Opulence - Aftershave
3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
The Los Jabones de Joserra soap base is very low structure. It is so slick, that the lack of structure doesn’t bother me, and the fragrance is very well blended. I did a 3-pass shave about two weeks ago. This one happened because I was tinkering with my 2-pass routine and wasn’t satisfied with the result after two passes.

A little more practice is needed with a SR in preparation for Moarteen.
This is a little presumptive on my part because you didn’t ask for my opinion. However, if you are within your first 100 shaves, I suggest that work on good technique and comfort with a straight will pay off with closeness and comfort. The closeness that you want will just come to you as you gain familiarity.
Also, I have two Union 5/8 razors that I bought for $27. I haven’t honed or used them yet, but I’ll make a video of what I learn when I finally get to them.
I’m still under 10 shaves with an SR, so I’m under no illusion that I’ll manage as close a shave (as with my DEs) right away. I’m still getting used to the feel of the razor in my hands. I’m open to advice, so no worries about coming across presumptive.
Thanks! Close shaves and then near-BBS shaves came to me between 20 and 30 shaves. I used SRs in the past, though not as a wetshaver. Going deep into technique with DEs and SEs, knowing how to build good lathers, and knowing how to get a close, comfortable shave, makes a world of difference and helps with SR shaving. Once you are comfortable with a straight razor it is difficult not to go way down that rabbit hole :)

- Brush: Maggard 24mm Tuxedo Synthetic
- Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
- Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic (8)
- Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Nag Champa - Soap
- Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Gratiot League Square - Aftershave
2nd shave in 12 hours. There wasn’t much there, but as @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social says, there were just as many hairs.
The lather was really great. It made me wonder, do you think Stirling been slowly improving their base over time? They’re sort of famous for not coming out with new bases, but that doesn’t mean they can’t tweak stuff here or there without us noticing. Frogs in boiling water, so to speak.
but as @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social says, there were just as many hairs.
That guy’s onto something!

Good question. Can you ask Rod during the next Maggard meet?
That depends on if I can go or not!
I’m planning to go. I’ll Rod ask if I can get a word in. At the last meetup, he and Mandy were swamped with people at their table. I had a bunch of questions that I wanted to ask, and I wanted to thank Rod for helping with the Moar Boar. I got the thanks in, bought some coffee and bar soap, then had to move on so they could talk to someone else.
