if you look in the modlog, you’ll see why. I was the one who did the ban.
But to sum, they posted an image of a rotund master chief, as stated by someone else in the comments. Then tried to complain about “wokewashing” in gaming, a far-right dog whistle about how the “woke media” is ruining gaming because they… ya know… depict women as human beings, include people of colour, and have gay characters. Specifically, they were complaining about Concord. A game that was released and then instantly pulled from markets because the far-right complained about it.
While I was investigating this, I found that they had a habit of posting/commenting reactionary things without context or reasoning, and getting things removed from communities for it. Including the N-word, sinophobia and gore, etc. That kind of behaviour can’t stand, and it had gone on for too long.
That person has given me awful reactionary vibes for ages so I’m glad to see them banned, though I didn’t know it was actually that bad since I can only really see the stuff that’s not removed of course
But yeah, they always gave me the sense of “this person wants to be communist but not actually change their behavior” and seemed like the kind of person to try to find the “right reasons” to hate on something that’s already getting shit for being “woke”
That was basically the reasoning yeah, even after people pointed it out to him or he was warned about it he didn’t seem to really respond. On and off over several months.
Yeah ditto on this one, I hoped in the back of my mind he would get better by the company of more principled folks but over my entire time here he continued to be reactive.
can we get rid of the “halo” community?
I don’t see a need to remove it, but we could put some new moderators on it instead.
“sinophobia” source?

I was wrong on the “gore”, but the context of the upset is still there. It’s a picture of a Japanese soldier executing an American soldier with the text “United States is a Chinese Colony”
Their caption was “M8 wtf”, but they failed to include any content warnings or context to the image. So, effectively, they posted sinophobia.

This was a dumb decision imo. Allow all users to see removed posts!
you can do that with hexbear
He posted a picture of of a fat Master Chief to complain about games being “wokewashed”.
I know who you mean but I forgot their exact user name so I can’t find it.
But if you know it, you can look it up in the modlog
Oh wow they were a prolific poster. Can’t say I liked all they posted but this is going to be felt in terms of content. Hopefully other people step up to increase our posting. News communities would be a great start. I do what I can personally.
We can always get others to join, whether it’s people from others onlins forums or acquainted irl communists.
the bigger issue imo is people leaving. There’s always an active contigent but it gets replaced over time. Though I say that in a thread with 2 of our oldest users lol.
tbf the oldest users in question are admins so
I hope this means content quality goes up. As forums get larger, which we do want to occur for our community, it seems they are prone to the effects of entropy and more irrelevant posts start to muddy the entire instance. I’m probably at fault for posting some things here that aren’t very relevant to ML, thus I try to post on hexbear more for less relevant stuff and limit my posts to higher quality and relevant topics here. Nevertheless, I am still working on improving this as sometimes I’m not sure if a post fits this community, but sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised when I get more reactions than my hexbear crosspost.
They were banned nearly a month ago, and I’ve barely noticed a difference so I don’t think there’s a lot to worry about.
IMO removal of this sort of user just makes the instance healthier, because people are more likely to stick around when they’re not subjected to a user’s reactionary nonsense.
Here …
CW : Reactionary speech
I’ve seen people use the word “degenerate” and “degeneracy”, get upvotes and no warning. The words always rub me the wrong way, but since there was no reports/action taken I figured it was tolerated on lemmygrad.
What was the final trigger then? Because his last posts didn’t seem so bad. Unless the bannable posts and comments were deleted/removed.
And was he told to stop?
I really don’t know , and also I hope to know more , but this is what I could find on the modlog ( I think there’s more and I didn’t dig enough ) .
MLGJoe got banned? I’ve been gone for a while, so I had no idea.
idk, I feel like anyone who’s that into video games ends up picking up the sort of language he used here so often. I’m fairly sure he’s just a teenager, 14-18 range, and as someone who played games when I was that age, I just wanted to say the things the rest of my friends in that space said. It didn’t really reflect my views, just ignorance and a callousness that comes with being in that sort of company. I wouldn’t have banned him if it were up to me, not unless he doubled down when confronted about the behavior. Perhaps he did, but I haven’t seen it.
