If you’re quiet you can hear the entire nation of Japan scream
You mean Hawaii?
They’ve been through enough already. Now I feel bad.
Looks good but honest question; what is vegan spam?
Fair question. I bought specifically because I’ve always wanted to try spam musubi, but I’ve never seen a vegan spam alternative. It’s mostly soy, starch and wheat, but if you want a full breakdown, here’s the manufacturer’s site.
Honest review, next time I’ll just make my own seitan. It wasn’t the worst, but the texture was weird and the cat food smell kinda put me off to begin with.
How does it compare to real Spam? Couldn’t really say since it’s been probably almost 20 years since I’ve had it. Probably about the same if memory serves.
If you haven’t tried Omni brand, it is a very impressive SPAM substitute. Releases a lot of oil but that helps with the mimicry. Unmeat looks more like a standard luncheon meat, which itself is a poor substitute for SPAM brand luncheon meat.
In case you’re not aware what Spam is, it’s a brand of canned meat, very popular in certain countries. Sort of like sausage, but in a tin can instead of the sausage skin.
You’re right, it is against better judgement. How did it taste?
The vegan spam was just ok, but the sushi rice was amazing!
There’s a frozen vegan spam at Sprouts that is amazing for this. Only drawback is the price.
This is the type of vegan I am lol
I feel like tempeh in the right marinade would work well.
That’s a good idea. I did something similar in a poke bowl and it was great.
Omfg that vegan spam is so bad. 🤮🤮
What is vegan spam made of anyway.
Soy-based, pig-anus style flavouring and poly filler.
Broccoli beaks and cabbage hoofs.
ngl, looks good!
Please don’t post pictures of food to this sub
Is there a better community for vegan food pictures?
Please make one if not. People will unsubscribe if this community turns into food pics
I hope you don’t unsubscribe, but I understand if this isn’t the content you come here for. One of the big reasons I post food pictures is because I think if they get a lot of traction, they might hit the “front page” and show non vegans that you can make any food vegan, so the only thing stopping you from harming animals might just be your own lack of creativity! Silly as it might sound, it feels like an outlet for activism and outreach. Let me know what you think!
I think a lot of folks on Lemmy are here for news. If you want to post pictures of food or memes, put it in a dedicates comm, not the main one.
i wouldn’t, as long as recipes and discussions were in the comments
@library_napper @chetradley on /r/vegan recipies are appreciated, they just weren’t the majority of the posts, just a small percentage. I’m saying this because it’s a growing sub with lots of attention and it’s working fine. Of course, there are other subs like r/VeganRecipes and r/VeganFoodPorn.
