I’ve only visited two.
- Saudi Arabia (For Haji, the Islamic Pilgrimage)
- Japan (I’ve visited two times actually, it’s nice but not a big fan of it’s history and government.)
How about you guys?
Went to Peru about 5 years ago. Beautiful nation, wonderful people. Absolutely being exsanguinated by imperialists and their comprador pets.
If you want to see the direct effects of imperialism, if you want to know and don’t already live in one, visit a country in the global south. I don’t know much about the ethics of tourism or flooding native economies with euros/USD, granted. I do know that for that meal I got for 10 soles and tipped 20 bucks on, I made my waiter’s life a lot better in the short term.
It’s obvious and self-evident when written. Actually seeing ramshackle, decrepit huts passed off for housing right next to a fancy new KFC with a heavily armed police officer out front is another thing entirely. A superhighway looming over extreme poverty. Grassroots preschools operated by 1 individual taking care of kids while their single mothers work 16 hour shifts and drink themselves to death the rest. Gated, white communities where just outside the water turns to poison (Typhus, in Peru’s case).
There is a revolutionary fire brewing in the heart of Peru, though. Losing Castillo was a defeat, but nowhere near the death-blow.
That sounds deafeningly tragic and injust.
Not an expert either, but wouldn’t spending dollars earned in America in the global South actually help (albeit in a tiny way)? Your money going into their economies instead of just inevitably getting sucked away into the hands of the handful of USian companies?
It makes me sad to think about actually because I have always loved geography and social studies in general. Never been beyond burgerland :(I have a potential trip to russia planned though.
Moscow?
Moscow is beautiful but very expensive and bougie. And St Petersburg is too westernized. If you want to see real Russia go to Nizhny Novgorod or Yekaterinburg.
I’d say go to Dzerdzhinsk for real experience, but that might be too cruel for a new visitor.
Also, both Nizhny and Ekaterinburg work well as tourist destinations, the former’s administration has been working hard on creating the image of a tourist attraction
yeah most likely
Don’t forget to visit the metro! Especially the central stations from the Stalin era
I went to Cuba once and it was genuinely amazing.
Tell more!
Well I’ve only done tourist-y stuff, never really went deep into the places. Been to:
-
Croatia
-
Czech Republic
-
Turkey
-
Cyprus
-
India
-
Spain
-
Italy, technically, it was a bonus trip, less than a day
Being labour aristocracy has its perks, I suppose.
-
I’ve been to the glorious PRC for a few months. Other than that, not really.
How was it?! I really want to and am planning on going if I can.
Apologies for my late response. I went there as a kid, but it was great and I definitely recommend going there. I would also love to go back for a second time, given how much China has improved.

Wow. What was the occasion(s)?
Most were family vacations. Some were places I studied/lived in.
That’s quite a list
Perks of the Malaysian passport in a way. Got visa-free access to like 167 UN member states? Equivalent to a lot of Western passports.
And of course, being part of a labour aristocratic family helps.
Whoa!
I’ve been very lucky to have been to a nice amount in my life.
Mexico, Barbados, Costa Rica, Panama, planning to go to China in summer 2024 if shit doesn’t hit the fan before then
Paraguay for a day and Wales for six months to try and emigrate to be with my fiance.
So far I have been to Spain, Italy, UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Latvia, Poland, France, Portugal, Denmark, Czech Republic, Greece, Turkey, Luxemburg, I was born in The Netherlands and I have migrated to Belgium. Never left Europe though.
It’s probably easier being a EU citizen with freedom of travel. Slovenia and possibly some other Balkan countries are next for now.
I went to ngland and Frnce last year, and a few years before that I went to Uganda, and technically Belgium (just the airport).
The Dominican Republic for a couple weeks back in 2006 and that’s about it.
used to live in europe when I was younger, so I traveled everywhere
except for all the based ones
did vacation in ireland once, absolutely loved it
I’ve only went to Paraguay but I was like 2 years old so I don’t remember shit.
Never went outside of my country. but someday ive always want to go to mecca (cuz for hajji) and wanted to visit AES states like vietnam, china and cuba.
You’re Muslim too? I hope you get the chance to go to Mecca!
Are the 3 cities truly as beautiful as people say they are? I have never been and am no longer Muslim proper, but I have heard tales.
In my experience, Mecca is a very beautiful and nice place. Unfortunately however, it is in the KSA which is ruled by the Chapo Trap House of Saud.
I’ve been to Ceuta Spain in my teenage years before Visa was required
