Individualists tend to view sex as an intrinsically violent and anti-social phenomenon – “at root we’re just animals competing to secure the best mate,” etc. So they invoke it as a sort of magic talisman against any kind of collectivist view of humanity. It’s the verbal equivalent of an anarchist throwing a bomb.
