They just shut down two of these types of plants in America because the price of photovoltaic in the mid 2000s made these types of plants economically feasible. It used to be that PV was more expensive, so this was thought to be an alternative. Well, PV is now cheaper than these types of plants so no longer makes sense to run them.

An interesting fact I didn’t know was that concentrated solar is capable of being dispatched during nighttime. This means the energy created by this project is of high-quality.
They basically get it for free because molten salt retains heat over night.
