A fresh update is here! This release brings initial support for PieFed. The PieFed API is still under development, so some features are limited, but here’s what’s new:

  • Support for PieFed (limited while the API evolves)
  • Notifications for new activity on communities, posts, comments, or users on PieFed
  • View topics and feeds

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

So far haven’t noticed any issues. Settled on Piefed after lemm.ee shutdown, but didn’t like any of the apps that supported it. Glad to see Boost works with it!

is there a way to report any issues with the piefed part of this version (or do you want us to? i know it was mentioned it was in beta).

i just noticed that marking or reading comments works between desktop and boost but i’ve noticed in the app, you have to mark read in both the “all” and “replies” tab. not a big deal and i’m sure you know but i just wanted to mention it just in case you didn’t notice it.

Been using it for a couple of days now and it works pretty well! I wish the merged comment sections could make it to the app, that’s a really great feature on the piefed website

Can someone explain a bit? Does this mean we get to see more communities in the app? Is there anything we/I have to do besides update Boost?

This only affects those who registered their account on piefed. It allows them to login into their account and interact with the website. If your account is on lemmy (which is the case for you), it does not affect you in any way.

Basically, lemmy uses 2 different APIs:

One (activitypub) is used for communication between instances. It is the same for both Lemmy and piefed, so no work is needed on this front.

The second one is used for interacting between lemmy core and applications (like boost, but also lemmy webui). Piefed for whatever reasons decided to make it incompatible with Lemmy, so all application have to do some work in order to add piefed support.

I’ve been using it the past few days with piefed and it’s been fantastic. Thank you!

Also, I kept my word and boosted the rocket :)
