A major driving force for enshittification of streaming is that ALL platforms (maybe with the exception of Amazon) have been singularly media-focused. This meant that all revenue making was through media, and due to that, any and all shareholder crap would be reflected in it.
Apple is in a unique position where their media branch, while drives sales, isn’t the primary product, thus shareholder benefits do not pose as big an effect as for e.g. WBD or Paramount. Simply said, shareholders at Apple have much less of a say, let alone direct fuckery, with the media they make. Especially as long as Apple keeps churning out bangers.
Hell I’d even go as far as to say that Apple’s internal culture of doing whatever the fuck they want without kowtowing to shareholder demands is paying them off right now, and will be for the next decade. Putting short term shareholder benefits ahead of company valuation has had a knock-on effect on many corporations that got fucked up in the past 10-15 years. This has been driving the enshittification as of recent years, shareholders trying to extract as much value as possible within the shortest timespan, before selling their stock, instead of planning for the long term success of the company.
Apple aren’t immune to enshittification. They’re about to start putting ads in Maps. They got headlines a month or two back for putting an ad in Wallet. It’s certainly not unthinkable that they’ll do the same in their media output.
I don’t think it will.
