I actually liked that Archer was so often out of his depth and had to put on a false confidence. It’d be weird if Starfleet just immediately hit the ground running with an absolute heavyweight of a captain like Picard or something.

I feel like it was a purposeful character choice to have him bumbling around, not really sure what the fuck he was doing, but having to act as if he did for the sake of the crew.

He’s meant to be somewhat bad at his job.

        That’s it: Overall pretty solid.
E.g. definitely better first season than TNG.
Xindi was crap imho, but some really good stuff in season 4.
I was sad that they didn’t produce more after that.

The Xindi arc has value as a snapshot of american mindset post 9-11. Justifying torture as an answer to terrorist act in a Star Trek series was wild.

I’m just gonna say it. When writing things, you should never fuck with time. There are very good shows that do a good job of it, without it becoming the answer to everything.

Star Trek is not one of those shows. (Dr. who, comes to mind.)

          Still over all enjoyed enterprise.

The time loop episode of TNG (Cause and Effect) is one of my favourite things I have ever watched. But that doesn’t affect the overall timeline so I don’t think it counts against your argument, which I agree with.

that’s part of the problem with screwing around with all the timey-whimey stuff.

At the end of the day, it changes nothing. Like the year of hell arc in Voyager, with the krennim. the other species. all of that was just filler.

I wish I had watched it when it first came out. I was one of those who lsitened to others saying it wasn’t good. Since I was deployed I couldn’t watch it live so I never did watch it until about a decade later. Now it’s one of my top ten favorite trek series.

      I kid, it’s #4 behind VOY, DS9, and TNG

I don’t care for a lot of discovery, but I can’t say it’s not entertaining. I have made it to season 2 episode 9 so far. Not sure why but I stopped there and picked up another show.

It doesn’t rank in my top 3 series, but it’s not deserving of all the hate it gets.

I love strange new worlds, haven’t seen the newest season yet but I’m working on rewatching the whole series.

I haven’t seen Picard, and honestly I don’t think I will. I won’t pass judgment on it’s quality, as I haven’t seen any of it, but I know enough to know I might be disappointed.

And if I’m being honest with myself I just want to keep the nostalgia of TNG the way it is: Pretending Nemesis never happened.

The new shows are overall good. Every show has its hits and misses. I skip a lot of season 1 TNG.

And I skip the intro of every Enterprise episode. No, I don’t have enough faith, at least not while watching the show. It’s a banger though and in my Playlist.

It’s okay to not like the new shows, it’s not okay to shit on other people who do.

I hate to break it to you but s3 of SNW takes a major dip in quality.

S3 of Picard is watchable without having seen the first 2 seasons (the second season is the worst Star Trek I have ever sat through), and gives the characters the send off they deserve.

New stuff always draws fire because of the hypothetical great thing the creators could be doing instead. Time will pass, it will become old and familiar, the hate will burn out, and people will start to eventually appreciate it for what is actually was instead of hating it for what it wasn’t.

Yeah me neither, but I still sorta like the show in a popcorn movie kinda of way. What really really annoys me about the show is Michelle Yeoh. A major miscast. Great actress but she can’t really play a evil bitch boss convincingly, she just reminds me of the try-hard Asian tiger moms in my family. Just straight up cringe. I’m still glad Discovery exists so Strange New Worlds could get greenlit.

The good news is the last episode isn’t exactly canon. The way it was presented as a holodeck adventure, any amount of it could have been made up, and probably was.

Really, all it added to canon was that Riker was hitting up the holodeck a lot during the events of a pre-existing TNG episode.

It truly was about as terrible and insulting a send off as they could have come up with.

This happens in many fandoms, over generations. They get too drunk on nostalgia, to the point of hating minute differences/inconsistencies. Especially the most active members, which (I theorize) tend to be fondest of the originals.

While also generally respecting the lore. As a die hard fan, I loved it. It had a unique perspective, amazing writing. Amazing actors. It fit into the broader universe while doing its own thing. Did it have Jedi? No. Did it need Jedi? Also no.

Compare that to discovery. None of that were minor changes, the show makes more sense if you assume everyone is tripping balls of Magic’s space shrooms.

It literallly felt like the only reason it was Trek was marketing and the writers just wanted to tell their own story. (Which would have been fine. I’d probably be more forgiving if it wasn’t trek.)

Andor is a SW show for people who hate Star Wars, and it works. (Not unlike how the Nolanized Batman was a superhero movie for people who hate superheroes.)

It’s not my thing, but no one’s making me watch it, so no big deal.
