I don’t like the design, but I do like how it was put together. In UC’, the Gelgoog was Zeon’s answer to the Gundam - roughly equivalent in power, general purpose/not specialized, etc. But mass produced like the GM. Zeon lacked the manpower to put them to good use by the time they were rolled out.
In GQX, Zeon didn’t need an answer to the Gundam, because Char captured it. Zeonic reverse engineered it, and was off to the races. The Gelgoog was the first beneficiary, and essentially became Zeon’s GM.
