i’m not 100% sure what you mean, but I think if you post a URL to an image hosted outside, it will create a thumbnail of it which is stored locally to the instance. i don’t believe it will store the full sized image?
I was trying to figure out if the thumbnail created is smaller/lighter than the images I post, because I already use to make them small in Gimp before posting. So if that doesn’t really change, I might as well upload pix directly on Lemmy.ca, it’s easier to display in my post in one click. But I’m more concerned about people uploading big pix here, which I prefer not to recommend in the community I created. So I think I will add something saying “reduce the size of your pix, or host them outside”. Thanks for the reply.
