I saw a thing once from an olden times flat earther where they said that pretending to believe the earth is flat is a great chance to practice debate skills. My old boss used to come by my cube and pick fights about flat earth BS with a huge smile on his face, and he loved to argue, so I believe it.
I did work with a guy once who was obsessed with the hollow earth bit. This was back in early to mid 00s, when the internet produced all manner of wondrous and chaotic crap.
He pulled up someone’s site, because if it had a detailed web page, it must be real.
That one seemed like he either believed or very much wanted to believe.
