Edinburgh Zoo’s adorable baby capybara has been named Bru after a public vote on social media. The name was chosen from four distinctly Scottish options provided by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), the wildlife conservation charity that runs Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park.

People in the comments shared their excitement over the news and even shared name suggestions. The overwhelmingly popular name users recommended before the “babybara” was officially named was “David Attenbara,” in honor of “national treasure David Attenborough.”
Why is it that the popular public name is one they never go for? Justice for David Attenbara and Boaty McBoatface
To be fair for the original competition with Boaty McBoatface, it was about naming a ship not a boat. There is a distinction between the two.
So they compromised and the ship was named the RRS Sir David Attenborough, while one of the submersibles was named Boaty McBoatface.
the ship was named the RRS Sir David Attenborough
Well that is a fun coincidence
Not a coincidence at all, it was the second most popular name suggestion.
I meant in the case of the capybara
This crowd naming situation ended up on the same name as that one
Justice for Shippy McShipface
Cappy McBaraface!
Absolute perfection
Simply magnificent.
Capys are so adorable, I had the opportunity to pet one and feed him a carrot at a kid’s birthday party a couple years ago and it was overall an 11/10 experience
Have a sip of this Bru, bro!
