Casey Kasem is the voice of shaggy. He’s also an Arab-American who stood up against an anti-Arab depiction his people be negatively stereotyped. When I started reading about him, I knew I had to make a special video about. This is my tribute to this legend. We look at who Casey Kasem is, his morals, the episode of Transformers that made him quit and why I think he needs to be remembered.
He’s also vegan and forced them to make Shaggy vegan or vegetarian or something.
He actually quit the role when Shaggy was supposed to be in a Burger King commercial, then came back like 10 years later after a promise that Shaggy would be depicted as vegetarian, which he still is I guess out of respect to Kasem
that comes up in the video
Yeah, I’m watching it now. I’m surprised it’s a Transformers episode and not Scooby Doo that was this racist. I’m not sure why, I guess the '80s cartoon animated by a Japanese company would probably be worse all things considered. But also, damn, that episode was racist as fuck.
Reminder that Shaggy has a lineage of inspiration that comes from EV Debs via a 50s sitcom character that was a “lazy beatnik” stereotype with a name that is a pun reference to EVD (Maynard G Krebs). This character was played by the same actor as Gilligan on Gilligan’s Island. Shaggy was directly referenced by the show creators as being based on Maynard.
It’s US socialist all the way down.
Zoinks!
Casey Kasem is a fucking legend. Amazingly talented and a good guy
