Since there is no way to blur community icons, and since I don’t want to be exposed to content I don’t specifically want to see, could lemmynsfw please disallow icons from being NSFW?

It’s kind of annoying to be browsing through the community list and see a giant anal hole as an icon. It defeats the purpose of marking things NSFW and having pics blurred to be considerate to other users. Especially since lemmynsfw federates with a lot of other instances, and they may end up de-federating with this place because of this issue.

If lemmy ever implements a feature that would allow community icons to be blurred, this rule could simply be reverted.

    Personally I think the defederating is the bigger issue, but that means it definitely could be important.

    I agree with this. While most people locally may be okay with the icons, I know many we federate with go out of their way to avoid being exposed to nsfw content. Especially since most people in other instances will browse publicly under the assumption everything is blurred.

    We also certainly want to avoid de-federation if possible, but I am hoping that instance admins will communicate with one another before it gets to that.

    Idk if this would work since I’m on Jerboa mostly, but isn’t there an option to not see NSFW posts? I imagine those nsfw icons are from nsfw posters.
