Lemmy.world just purged access to a lot of piracy communities across the fediverse for its users. They say it’s against rule 1 of their code of conduct, which says no illegal content. And it’s also getting more and more illegal to post gay and trans speech in the US. Are they going to start enforcing the Don’t Say Gay bill on lemmy?

Are you absolutely sure about this? They suspended access to, and later restored access to, 3 piracy related communities a few months ago because they weren’t sure what their legal liability was. And being as instances are owned by individuals without access to teams of high priced legal teams, that seemed fair enough to me.

Also, .world servers are not in the US so why do you imagine any US law would be enforced there?

There’s absolutely no mention of any of this on their Announcement community either.

I checked in .world’s mod log and I couldn’t find anything piracy related, except the restoration of the community 29 days ago.

It would be nice to have more information from OP.

If someone causes a fuss, probably. Kinda sad really, the owner of one of the larger lemmy instances somehow ends up being a bigger corporate/government bootlicker than the corporation most of us migrated from.

Oh wow. Good that I didn’t make an account on the world instance. They also started with censoring certain words, as soon as you’d hit submit the word would be redacted. Both of this goes too far in my eyes.
