How much is reasonable to buy just dry flower? What kinda of quality should I be looking for? What should I avoid? I’ve only ever bought edibles, tinctures and vape carts. I’m getting a dry vape, what should I be looking for?
Depends on how you’re consuming, your storage situation, and how often you plan to buy. Dry herb vapes are super efficient. I usually buy by the ounce for pricing but i have way too much of a bunch of strains. I bought 2 g for a 3 day mountain vacation but I’m using a dynavap b, so one bowl is a pretty tiny amount.
How much is an ounce for you? I just paid $60 for a 1/4 of Memory Loss. I plan on grinding it in a food processor and storing it in mason jars.
You could get an ounce of this for $235. Little high, but it will show up in your mailbox. I prefer to store whole in a jar and grind as i need it. https://aretehemp.com/product/strawberries-and-cream-high-thca-hemp-flower/
Gosh this is so wild to me as a Canadian. I pay $30/oz for some pretty decent weed.
I hope one day y’all will legalize it federally. Everyone’s missing out.
President Cheeto signed the farm bill in 2018, making it essentially legal federally, except for a few states that have specifically made this illegal. Growers can test crops early, when numbers are low, and then label it hemp. The big cannabis companies are fighting this and just got hemp limited in Washington. Waiting to see what comes out of the next version of the farm bill…
Thanks for that I might check them out. How would you compare the high to cannabis?
It’s what you’ve always smoked/bought in dispensaries.
It’s the exact same once it’s heated up
Also check out Foxhole, Eight Horses Hemp, there are several…
In recreational states, prices can be all over the place, as can quality. I’ve had experiences in Vegas where I tried to use shake I got out of a cheap $10 preroll from a dispensary and vaporize it only to get zero vapor - I literally thought I had broke my vaporizer until I tried some high quality flower and got vapor.
Turns out the dispensary was making concentrate from dry flower, and then using the leftover shake (after extraction) to sell as pre-rolls, despite having essentially no THC left to vape. That should be illegal.
Anyway back to your question - different strains will produce different amounts of vapor depending on your device, temperature used, and quality of the herb. Low grade herb will produce minimal vapor and you’ll need to cook a lot of it to get where you want to go. High grade herb will produce a ton of vapor at your preferred temp for that strain (Sativas cook best at lower temps, Indicas cook need higher temps, hybrids can be fun to customize your experience based on the temp used for extraction - different temps release different medical benefits from the flower).
What kind of vaporizer did you get? Some vaporizers are more “flexible” with load sizes - while others require a fully filled oven for optimal conduction of temperature and extraction.
I know an older gentleman who rips 0.015g of high grade herb twice a day through a massive desktop plugin vaporizer to get him where he wants to go. He may pay top $$ for that herb, but one single gram also lasts him a whole MONTH of medicating. Not all dry herbal devices work the same or perform the same - some are MUCH more powerful than others.
Last year I myself went six months with half an ounce while partaking almost daily.
It depends heavily on where you are.
Are you in a legal state like California, where there are dispensaries everywhere and plugs everywhere?
Or illegal state where it’s harder to get?
Is the flower indoor or outdoor?
I mean generally speaking (granted I’m from California where weed is not that expensive), I’m not paying more than $30-$40 for an 1/8 at a dispensary.
I haven’t tried dry vape myself but I used to work in a dispensary, and knew people who did. As far as I can tell you don’t need any specific flower, any should do. Out of my own head, maybe something less sticky so it doesn’t gunk up the vape? idk if that’s a common issue tho.
I’m in a legal rec state. Just paid $60 for a 1/4 of Memory Loss. I have no idea if that’s a good price or not. My main goal is to get the cleanest or purest cannabis at a fair price. I need to look into what it takes for me to legally grow it so I can ensure that but for now I have to buy.
I’m in a legal state too and the prices vary drastically based on how strong or fresh the flower is. I can get an ounce of older flower for like $40-50 or 3.5 grams of top-shelf for about the same price. I usually stick to the cheaper stuff but occasionally will splurge on the really good stuff.
All this to say: if you like the bud and it gets you stoned in only a couple hits, then it’s worth $60 for ¼.
Thanks for the info. Part of my goal with the dry vape is to get a “cleaner” experience with the cannabis. If it’s old flower but clean, I’ll take it. I just want want to inhale anything but the cannabis.
