I had a third generation of yours - the Commodore Amiga.

Holy shot was that an amazing machine! It was ahead of its time in so many ways. I learned to do OOP on it, I created some cool pictures in Paint Shop Pro on it, and of course I used it to play a ton of fantastic games. And in a time before Windows took off, it offered Workbench - a really slick *nix based graphical OS.

I also used a 64 for a bit before I got my Amiga, and yes that was a superb machine too.

I guess neither the Amiga nor the Commodore 64 folded in two, so this new Ryzen-based machine has that over our two computers.

      Like in Johnny Mnemonic (1995).

Why is their internet so much cooler than what we have now? Instead of a crazy 3D VR world, we get a ton of spam, dull corporate run social networks and uncontrolled fake news and bots.

FWIW, my comment was tongue in cheek.

From a UX perspective, making a long distance call to Beijing via VR is comical. Not to mention we have some excellent services via web and mobile that make life so much easier.

Is there a way I can use my laptop screen or phone screen as a display for another machine as this claims?

Through a remote desktop connection, yes.
But directly use the display hardware, almost always the answer is no. There are few laptops with display in capabilities, but they are really rare.

I’d prefer a GameCube style box that I plug a good keyboard & mouse into in addition to the monitor.

Soon we will be able to see hackers in full VR gear evading corporate owned police with the help of depraved mall ninja cyborgs. Oh it’s gonna be glorious
