I hated working from home, it’s not for me. As soon as I could I went back to the office and I’ve turned down jobs that require too much WFH.

However, I do work with a lot of WFH people. My only “complaint” about their “productivity” is to please, for the love of God, have them working the same timezone hours as the area they are servicing if their job is time sensetive. If I need to get ahold of someone anytime something goes wrong with a hauler cause you’re the only one with access to the system then don’t have your work day be hours off from typical trucking hours in my location! Looking at you logistics…

There are also a lot of kits that include most of what you’ll need (especially for cross stitch). It can be a really convenient way to start and most kits come with really good instructions on how to cross stitch too.

It looks like this subscription may be for their “smart” printers. So the subscription would be for the connection to phone service. Why you’d need a smart printer is beyond me but they apparently think there is a market for it.

I think it’s for “smart” washing machines that you can control from your phone etc. So that’s likely what the “updates” would be related too…why you’d need to control your washing machine from afar is beyond me but some people love smart gadgets and will by anything that connects to their phone.

I can’t figure out where all the lemmy people posting about reddits “power tripping power mods” were posting. I think I ran across one mod in the wild (niche sub) that I thought was crazy and they got run off the platform eventually. What were people posting that they were getting banned all over the place? Maybe the mods weren’t the problem if multiple were banning you?

If Fast and Furious has a 29% score then RT isn’t a good indicator of movies. They don’t keep making those movies because they arent popular. That whole franchise is basically printing money.

PA can be fairly cold expect snow and ice every year. It does snow in Virginia as well but I can tell you it’s on average atleast 10 degrees warmer in VA vs PA year round. (Lived in both areas). Virginia is wetter (and far more humid than CA) and has more hills since Appalachia cuts right through a lot of the western part of the state. If you don’t like the outdoors I’d suggest eastern Virginia. If you like the outdoors western Virginia is great for outdoor activity (hit or miss on things like high speed internet, research any specific towns your interested in out there.) One thing I will say is that Virginia is NOT blue. But then Scranton is probably considered the beginnings of Pennsyltucky too.

Honestly the customer doesn’t even have to dislike the shirt. It’s incredible the lack of rights that Americans have in the workplace. Especially when we also have very weak safety nets in place for people who are out of work.

It think they’re mad because some of them already paid for a year and the awards and gold were part of why they got premium. Now awards and fold are disappearing mid-september and they feel they aren’t getting what they paid for anymore.

The movie might have been a satirical commentary against militarism but the book it’s based off of is arguably not. I loved that book as a kid but it definitely glorifies militarism and not really in a tongue in cheek way. There are literal scenes discussing civics and the necessity of war interspersed throughout the book.

I didnt take it as an insult, I just disagree with its use here. What I mean is that it’s not learned incompetence, I’m speaking specifically for me. I’m fully capable of learning how this stuff works and I know I could, I just dont want to. I just dont care about tech stuff, it bores me. The same way some people don’t care about the rules of football, or the way contract law works, or the difference between needle lace and bobbin lace, that’s how I feel about tech. I could learn it, I’d just rather not. There are a lot of people like me who don’t want to learn this stuff because they don’t enjoy it and like it or not that apathy (rather than inability, real or imagined) is a strong barrier to entry for something like lemmy/the “fediverse”

Also being “smart” in an apocalypse likely means building allies and connections. Which can only happen if people can trust your word and don’t think you’re a dick. Something that describes neither of them.

Im not sure its so much learned helplessness as, and I know this will be an unpopular opinion here, I don’t want to understand how it all works behind the scenes. I don’t care how lemmy is like email, I don’t care if mastodon can see me if I can’t see them, I don’t want to have to know the differences between what version/update my instance vs app is using, etc…I could learn all that, I just dont want to have too, but I probably qualify as part of the “normie masses”.
