A grenade launcher is an NFA item, if you pay enough money, file enough paperwork and wait long enough you can legally own one (unless the state has laws against it, which some do). I think from memory if you want to fire explosive ammunition (rather than flares or buckshot) those also need NFA paperwork and time.

I remember on r/guns some people would show off their “4-stamp” guns meaning it had a silencer, short barrel, select fire switch and grenade launcher, all 4 things aside from their costs, requiring a 250 dollar tax stamp each and months of waiting. Getting back into State of Decay. Doing a Warlord only playthrough. It’s a challenge because I have to exile or send to legacy pool any non Warlord survivors (so 3/4s of all survivors) and it means I’ve got a real eclectic bunch of people some with quite good quirks and some not so much.

I had struggled in the past to play Warlord because you basically become jerks fighting and bossing about other survivor groups. But this time I’ve given all my guys matching military uniforms and bandanas and I’m roleplaying a kind of off the rails Maoist group. We live in cabins in the woods at a summer camp and have captured a wind turbine for our electricity needs.

It’s been pretty fun.

I’ve got her copy too. It’s good and actually more truthful to the time period. She correctly identifies slaves as slaves, not as butlers or maids or any milder term Victorian era writers use. As well as not hiding SA stuff under euphemism (or calling female victims “prostitutes”). There’s a bit where Homer describes Penelope’s hand as “thick” which she translates as “muscular” because a woman who has been weaving for years would have very strong muscular hands and arms.

Finished Prey because Amber Midthunder from Legion (Kerry Loudermilk) is the main actor. It was really good.

I think JFK’s politics are hard to summarise neatly. I mean he was still 100% US imperialist and anti-communist, like he started Vietnam and all the stuff with Cuba etc. Like all Presidents of the USA he sucked.

But there was sort of benevolent (if paternalistic) approach that he wanted to take to the global south/non aligned nations. One where independences movements weren’t violently squashed (take Lumumba in the DRC and Sukharno in Indonesia) and instead they were aided in their transition to independence and helped to industrialise, so that they could slot into the global market, still exploited with comprador governments, but less overtly.

Likewise that he wanted to thaw relations with the USSR, but more to avoid outright nuclear war, he still thought the USA would beat them economically and ideologically with time. That and wanting to curtail the CIA’s growing power. Like it’s bad he was killed for world geopolitics, but still very much the fact was he was terrible.

When I played GTA Online I made a character sort of loosely based on Omar Little from the wire, I got called the n-word so often on mic it was surreal (I’m white IRL).

Yeah the immunotherapy that is used in cancer (and some autoimmune conditions) in the last few years is pretty crazy in how effective it is.

It does suck that things are moving slowly. There has been good news. Like Hepatitis C is completely curable. Hepatitis B is pretty close to being outright cured and can be controlled by antivirals like HIV (affects millions in the global south). HIV is preventable via PREP and completely controllable with medication with very little side effects that stop you from spreading it. HIV vaccines are probably going to be in our lifetimes.

There’s a lot of discussion about Ozempic, but GLP-1 agonists (and a different class sglt2 inhibitors) are huge breakthroughs not just for diabetes, but for heart disease, renal disease and a bunch of other conditions. It sucks that capitalists are rolling out the near miracle medications and focusing on the wrong thing (like exclusively weight loss), but they’re a crazy breakthrough in our lifetime.

But I definitely agree if the Soviet Union was around we’d have better stuff, from collaboration rather than competition.
