Thanks to everyone who put this together. I’m sure it was a lot of hard work, but I think I can speak for the majority of the community that this is something that is extremely valuable to fostering growth over time.
Darren@lemmy.worldto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK alternatives to imgur for uploading your images7·2 years agoDo any of these have the ability to link an album? I often put multiple photos together, and post the that link to my communities.
Not OP but I do the same thing. I read ebooks on my iPad and Kindle. There’s a feature if you have the audiobook and ebook on the Kindle app, where it’ll highlight the word that is being spoken, but if you move to the next page, the audiobook will jump to where you are.

I’m almost only play cooperative games (no one in my group is too much of a fan to compete against each other), so I’m always on the hunt for more of these. Luckily, I own all three games you’ve mentioned, but only spent time on AE and The Crew. This definitely motivates me to open up Spirit Island and give it a go!
I actually own the Target exclusive Horizons of Spirit Island - from reviews, it seems like it’s a streamlined version of the original, with lower quality pieces. Have you tried this, and what are your thoughts on it?
Darren@lemmy.worldto Movies and TV Shows@lemmy.film•‘ELEMENTAL’ earns $11.8M in the film’s domestic opening day, the lowest in Pixar’s historyEnglish2·2 years agoNot the OP, but I just left the theater and really enjoyed it. Not the best Pixar film in any sense, but the themes really resonated to me, as a kid with immigrant parents.
It really did a great job evoking the themes of the sacrifices our parents made coming into a new world, the apprehension they developed towards the people already living there, and trying to blend the difficulties of maintaining old cultures/values while growing up in a completely separate ones. I saw that the director, Peter Sohn, had Korean immigrant parents, and it really felt like it was a story of his struggle.
I agree that the trailers were absolutely atrocious and didn’t made any mention of the things I listed above; if my girlfriend didn’t want to watch it, I probably wouldn’t have gone. However, I’m glad I did and even shed a few tears at the end
Darren@lemmy.worldto NBA@lemmy.world•Anyone else feel /r/nba has nose-dived in content and user quality in the past year or so?18·2 years agoMore than the past year imo; I’d say for the last 3 years or so. I largely started avoiding the comments, but then I realized that a league as popular as the NBA would have news coverage anywhere. I then started following The Athletic for my news; that being said, I do miss having good conversation about the NBA with others. I’m hoping that constructive criticism and disagreements can be upheld here, as that was lost on the subreddit years ago.

Might as well have announced it during the Finals, this is a nothing burger. DeAndre Ayton got suspended 25 games for failing a drug test. Darren@lemmy.worldto Mlem for Lemmy@lemmy.ml•New Mlem release in TestFlight - 0.0.7 (23)!English4·2 years ago20 new developers! Damn. Thanks for the hard work, everyone.
It’s somewhat exciting to be a part of this journey so early on; Lemmy will obviously continue to change as it adapts to an influx of users, so I’m sure you guys have your hands full. Looking forward to the continued progress of the application.
Well this is a first. I have never heard anyone do this! Usually I’ll just do something like rinse off things like apples/oranges. If it’s something that is more easily bruised like berries, I’ll throw them in some water with some salt in there.
Sounds good! To be honest, I usually played most Bethesda games using V.A.T.S, which was only on Fallout. One thing I liked was that I just had to endure a tough early game, and as long as I stacked my skills accordingly, I became a killing machine with the press of a button. As a result, I didn’t enjoy the Elder Scrolls games as much since they didn’t have that mechanic, and it seems like a difficulty-based combat system might not fit what I was looking for.
For role-playing purposes, is it possible to do a charisma/leadership build where you allow your followers to do all the combat, while you stay back and just pick people off with arrows? I see that you can have up to four followers, so not sure if that type of build is possible.
Darren@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit's CEO reportedly told staff that the community's API protest will blow over6·2 years agoSadly, I don’t think he’s wrong. It’s quite easy to see how:
- A lot of people currently on Lemmy still have a pretty big addiction to reddit - I’ve seen a lot of threads about how they instinctually pull up reddit
- This is still a vocal minority. There were some statistics (I unfortunately can’t pull up the numbers - I think I saw them on a subreddit that has gone private), where the number of people using third party applications was an extremely small number that probably won’t move the needle for them revenue-wise.
That being said, I personally have been enjoying the discussions being had on Lemmy. It seems to prompt for better discussion, since it appears that most people here are more tech-adept and willing to go through growing pains. I’ll likely stick around, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of active users here drops once this blackout ends. Still hoping for a change.
I’ve only ever played vanilla Skyrim, and found the experience fun; however, I could not handle the combat, with the melee weapons feeling like they lacked any weight. Do you think it’s worth playing again with this modpack?
Darren@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•An anti-porn app put him in jail and his family under surveillance11·2 years agoTo my knowledge, a lot of these tracking and accountability applications end up in hot water because of their usage from bad actors.
I know there was an app on Android called Cerberus that was supposed to help you track your phone if it was lost/stolen, and it had the ability to open the covertly take videos/screenshots, so you could provide it as evidence to authorities.
Eventually, Google Play Store pulled the application after it became a fairly popular app for people to stalk their significant others without them knowing. I know for certain that iPhones already limit a lot of features from these types of apps. Just look at the limitations that CE admits to having when installed on iOS, including the inability to grab text messages, and only working through Safari.
The major players in tech, imo, have done a good job in preventing people in accidentally installing these applications that could invade their privacy (and instead, allow their own applications to steal your data…) It’s another discussion to see how much personal data we allow big tech to access, but I can say that they’ve done a solid job preventing these third party tracking applications to stay on their devices. The only way they can be installed is if you agree to it being installed on your devices, or being coerced into it.
The only solution I can think that would work long-term is if people get educated on the benefits and sanctity of their right to privacy, and don’t give these tracking companies any business, leading to their eventual collapse. I’m not holding my breath for that to happen, but until that happens, more and more of these stories will pop up.
Darren@lemmy.worldto Movies and TV Shows@lemmy.film•Ready for the new upcoming Transformers movieEnglish0·2 years agoJust left the theater. What a great summer flick. Great action, story just enough to carry the film forward, but the robots themselves are awesome. Humans decent at best, but they do a good job and focusing on what’s important. Watch in IMAX if possible.
NBA 2K
I’ve been an avid fan of NBA 2K since the early 2000’s. I absolutely hate how money hungry the game has gotten; that being said, the core offline gameplay is still extremely strong. I’ll pop in and play a few offline games just to decompress. It’s gotten to the point where I’ll put on music or a podcast and find myself idly playing through four quarters of basketball.
