Palestine@lemmygrad.ml•Hamas offers to hand over authority in Gaza to US-backed administration
171·2 months agoI agree that this action itself will not directly lead to the liberation of Palestine, but it is a part of the broader axis of resistance strategy to do so. Hamas is not disarming nor dissolving as an organization of resistance, and will under no circumstances allow the US to have its way with Gaza (nor will Hezbollah, Ansar Allah, or Iran).
It seems to me that Hamas/the broader axis of resistance has determined it not to be the time to resume hot war with Israel on all fronts, so this is a way to bide time. Israel is facing a sharpening of contradictions within their own society, between widespread anger towards orthodox jews who do not serve in the IOF, and dissatisfaction with Netanyahu for not sufficiently destroying Iran/Hezbollah. I can see how it would be strategically wise to wait for Israeli society to reach a point of further disarray to resume larger scale resistance operations with armed Palestinian resistance groups involved.
What would you want Hamas to do otherwise?

Palestine@lemmygrad.ml•Hamas offers to hand over authority in Gaza to US-backed administration
211·2 months agoI’ve seen many people online act like this is a defeat and spreading lies of Hamas of being funded and created by Israel. It has been made clear that all of Hamas’s actions are coordinated with the axis of resistance. They didn’t make such massive sacrifices just to roll over and let Israel erase their existence now. Every step is calculated to reach a liberated Palestine.

9·3 months agoMy best friend from school and I lost contact after graduating, we met up a couple of times and had a good time, but when I tried to rekindle the friendship he was starting to drift into the alt-right (had always been a libertarian edgy guy, but became completely obsessed with reactionary politics during covid lockdowns). I just found out he is now working for a US arms company.
While it is completely unsurprising, it hit me harder than I expected. Literally a company that builds weapons for Israel to carry out genocide.

This one has to be satire right?
John Stephen 1 day ago It’s difficult not to feel great sympathy for these gentlemen.
Here was a group of people - educated, elevated, and better bred than their fellow countrymen confined to a middle class lifestyle despite their superior social status.
I hope that these people can be put back to the position that clearly they are pre-ordained to be in.
Long live the aristocracy and our social superiors!

An interesting article thank you. A loss as they have endured continues to impact families for generations.
We knew a family who were dispossessed of their property as described. With no compensation they went to Rhodesia and saved enough to buy a farm, grow crops again and made a comfortable life for themselves and their children too. There, as Zimbabwe, they were dispossessed of their land again.
Dispossessing farmers, with no concern for the economic damage, loss of jobs, or vital food security, is a medieval practice.

Ask Lemmygrad@lemmygrad.ml•do u think people join the US military out of financial desperation or is that a lie
25·4 months agoThe data I have seen points to new US military recruits, at least in recent years, being predominantly “middle class” basically to say they aren’t people living in poverty, but are not coming from notable generational wealth either.
It is hard to get exact data, but I have seen multiple sources suggest that the $50k - 100k household income bracket is the biggest for military enlistment. Like this study for example
The people that I knew growing up who have since gone into the military (and I no longer have contact with) did it because someone in their family was in the military, none of them were poor. I think the whole propaganda and perception of the military being a force for good and virtuously defending the country plays a much bigger role than the money aspect, even though that perception, as we know, is extremely inaccurate.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmygrad.ml•Boots Riley Explains Why Capitalism is Built on Theft | I LOVE BOOSTERS
9·4 months agoI have read this response from Boots, but I don-t find it very convincing personally. Per his point on Megan-s relation to her father, Larry Ellison stepped in to directly manage the company in 2018 due to financial trouble, and also provided the financial backing to get it off the ground in the first place. Sure she isn’t her father, but she will take his money and help with running her business.
Idk maybe I really am naive and being undisciplined, but something just does not sit right with me with the argument, “I have to make art that goes towards funding zionism in some way because there is no alternative.”

11·4 months agoUnfortunately, this movie was produced by Annapurna pictures, a company owned by Megan Ellison, daughter of sixth richest man in the world, David Ellison. The Ellison family is one of the foremost supporters of the Zionist project and have contributed directly to the oppression and genocide of Palestinians.
No matter how leftist and Marxist the movie is, nothing can justify collaborating with such people in any capacity.

19·5 months agoHypothetically, if right wing bourgeois, like let’s say the PayPal mafia, were to run supposedly progressive candidates to infiltrate and wreck the American left, wouldn’t it be the guy who went overseas for American imperialism several times, has a Nazi tattoo, and proudly worked for Blackwater??
Based on Platner’s past Reddit posts, he seems EXACTLY like a guy who would think going undercover as a leftist for nefarious purposes is really cool.
If American progressives can fall for this guy, they would fall for anything.

20·6 months agoI’m so sick of business executives and middle managers. I have to work with many of these people and it drives me insane. Their jobs consist of saying things like, “we need to monitor this closely”, that’s basically their whole job.
Like no shit I’m going to monitor this, that’s all I get paid to do.
B-b-b-but we have to teach the big mean Russians a lesson! /s
It seems like there’s some evidence building to suggest this is the case though, no? I think he is far from someone who would argue that the US wouldn’t go to war without being manipulated, but in this case there’s ample reason to believe Trump is under Israel’s thumb

Hate5six, a pretty legendary concert videographer within the hardcore music scene who is also extremely outspoken in his support for Palestine, shared a sentiment on Instagram arguing that the people who want to collapse the distinction between Zionism and Judaism are the majority of followers of Judaism themselves, so it shouldn’t be a concern to the Pro-Palestine movement.
Right away I saw sizable backlash in the online hardcore community calling him antisemitic, but this data and all other indications I have seen, directly support his point.
It seems like the distinction between Zionism and Judaism serves to shield the vast majority of Jewish institutions that staunchly support Zionism and Israel.
The rigorous need to tip toe around language, ensure that the distinction is abundantly clear, serves as a distraction to the movement.
And furthermore, when these organizations are happy to call anything as simple as a Palestinian flag antisemitic, why should we take antisemitism seriously at all? It’s the boy who cried wolf. Maybe once Israel is gone we can have a real conversation about anti-semitism but it seems completely pointless in the current state of things.
