Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL: Young Men Ages 18–29 are Turning Right-Wing and Women of the Same Age Turning Left-WingEnglish
4·8 天前Except in 2 of the 4 graphs, young men are still more liberal-leaning and in Germany it’s only barely conservative leaning. What they all have in common however is young women becoming extremely liberal-leaning. The headline in other words is misleading.
A lot of the benefits people associate with capitalism require a free market. The US problem is that the megacorps have gotten sufficiently powerful to abolish that free market through regularory (and legal) capture, enabling entrenched monopolies.

politics @lemmy.world•There's 'overwhelming evidence' tariffs have raised consumer prices, says Bank of America
26·1 个月前…yes, that is the purpose of tariffs. Raising prices on imported goods until they become so expensive that local goods are competitive. This automatically increases consumer prices. It causes a huge shock upon introduction and over time it (in theory anyway) should promote domestic production by undercutting foreign competition.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Over 5,000 games released on Steam this year didn't make enough money to recover the $100 fee to put a game on Valve's store, research estimatesEnglish
11·2 个月前If you’re just looking for critiques there’s plenty of other spaces to post your product. 100USD for the outreach & services steam provide a developer is actually quite cheap in western countries. I could see it being more difficult in parts of the world with lower purchasing power though unless they have some regional pricing scheme.

Whilst I agree in principle (since hereditary monarchies are inherently anti-meritocratic), there is actually a strong argument for constitutional and apolitical figurehead monarchs (i.e mostly powerless). They serve as something of an antidote to cults of personality and can also act as a uniting force in times of crisis.
