I’ve read interviews before where developers know when the project they’re working on is shit well in advance of release. It probably still feels bad because talented people worked on it and did their best given the project they were assigned, but they most likely knew it wasn’t gonna be pretty. I bought some GameStop when it was $10 but chickened out and sold it a few days before it went to like $420 a share cuz I thought I was being baited by wallstreetbetters. I only later found out a close friend of mine who is a generally responsible investor was heavily in that and sold at like $200~ to pay off all his medical debt. He’s not rich either, but financially better off than before that happened.

The documentary is actually pretty good and a genuine exploration of the guy’s life and art. It doesn’t go as far as saying he’s telling the truth, but it just lets him tell his story and although you can say he’s a crank, he’s really not hurting anyone. He’s stuck to the same story for decades and knows people think he’s crazy when he tells it.
