The traditional conception is that ghosts aren’t really sentient creatures, but a phenomenon that souls can get stuck in instead of going to the afterlife. There’s symbolism there - a ghost is an echo of a person, much like memories of them or the effects they had on the world. There’s also a bit of Christian moralizing - a “good” person doesn’t stick around because they are eager to join God in heaven, while a “bad” person clings to their earthly life and possessions even if they are only capably of doing so in a greatly diminished state.

The modern conception of a ghost where it’s a fully realized person who can just kinda go through walls is an anthropomorphized and secular version of the ghosts that were invented by the Victorians.

Replaying Baldur’s Gate 3, this game is so good but the surprise/ambush mechanics are super wack and janky to use. Unironically it would hugely benefit from a patch to update it to the 2024 surprise rules where instead of getting a full free turn, you just get advantage on your initiative roll. it also needs some tweaking on how getting in and out of combat functions - I should not be trying to click my abilities faster than the NPC takes their turn like I’m in a real time game!

The only thing I know about The Boys is that, as it went on, the writers didn’t like chuds latching onto Homelander in a “Tyler Durden” kind of way, so the longer the series goes the more overt and explicit the politics get until I think Season 4 where they finally reached the point at which chuds realized they were the ones being made fun of.
