  • Your friends who use spying social media platforms can share them there, if it’s a public blog. And if none of your target audience (friends and family) use Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, etc then there’s no need for them to be shared on those platforms?

Also, ime from when I had to use Facebook because of a group I was in, the group was very resistant to any privacy advice. I think the vast majority of people on these platforms are on those platforms specifically because they don’t care.

  • I think blocking roads and publicity stunts are ineffective, but there’s plenty of actually effective stuff you can do, like tree spiking or sabotaging oil infrastructure. I don’t really care if people want to block roads or throw soup at paintings but I don’t think it’ll achieve much. I guess better than doing nothing. But with the draconian punishments people are getting in various countries for this sort of protest, it really doesn’t seem worth it when you could do something that’s also criminalised but actually directly does something to prevent climate change.

Personally I don’t like how a lot of the XR-related groups are so ideologically wedded to nonviolence, to the point where they condemn and actively oppose others on the left they deem “violent” (which is usually just racialised people who acted in self-defence at a protest). I see that as a bigger problem than ineffective protests, because they’re actively withholding solidarity from those who should be aligned with them.

  • No, there is simply no such thing as “zeroth”, that’s not how ordinal numbers work. If I have the following numbered list:

    1. Foo

    2. Bar

    3. Baz

The first item is “Foo” which is indexed 5. It is not the fifth item, because the item indexed 5 comes first in the list, so the item indexed 5 is the first item. Ordinal numbers don’t refer to index, they refer to order.

  • Yes, Herzl himself referred to Zionism as a colonial movement. In a 1902 letter to Cecil Rhodes:

You are being invited to help make history. It doesn’t involve Africa, but a piece of Asia Minor; not Englishmen but Jews … How, then, do I happen to turn to you since this is an out-of-the-way matter for you? How indeed? Because it is something colonial.

The first Zionist banks were called “Jewish Colonial Trust” too. The nascent Zionist movement was always an openly colonial project. I suppose now that colonialism is not the cool thing to do anymore some Zionists are shying away from the term, but some still do openly identify their politics that way.
