Lots of firmware and driver updater programs seem to require Windows or Mac and I can’t get them to run with wine. For example, I need Win to update the firmware on my car stereo and my 8bitdo game controllers. I also need it to run the tax software my CPA uses.
Thanks for this! I’m so glad to see an audible alternative.
EDIT: I signed up for a free trial and will give it a go. Bummed to see they have a much smaller selection but I guess that’s expected with Amazon’s muscle.
I know it got sold twice and I am worried about the future but I believe they still have the same purchase and download options for now.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition (the full trilogy)
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Inside
BioShock
All great stories with some very powerful moments.
Pretty much everything you cook should have salt added or it will taste bland. Salt brings out other flavors. There’s a reason “under seasoned” is an expression that often simply means “under salted.”
Can you use an adblocking DNS provider to circumvent this?
I agree that it’s a bad recommendation. That was my first distro and the dated look was a huge turn off and a bad first impression for Linux. It just feels like a downgrade from Windows or MacOS, which makes for a terrible transition.
What Mint offers that many other distros don’t is that it generally works well right out of the box, with just the initial install and no other tweaks, because it has proprietary drivers and other bells and whistles pre-installed. But so does Zorin and Pop_OS and both look much better. Those would probably be my top recommendations for a new user. All 3 of those distros have lots of online support (plus the general Ubuntu support that will usually be applicable as well).
Very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to run these tests and share your results!
Me too. I love that in order to prove I have a claim for my deleted account, I can submit my email address. My account was deleted, Facebook. Why do you still have my email address? Why do you still have records tying it to my deleted account?
I have been looking for a replacement for Nova due to the sale but haven’t found anything that comes close re gestures. I can set up a folder with any icon I want. Tap on it and it opens the folder. Swipe up on the folder and it opens whatever app I want. Same with swipe down.
So for example I have a folder with my audio apps in it that looks like a musical note. Swipe up and it opens my music app. Swipe down and it opens my podcast app. Tap and it opens a folder with all my audio apps. It’s amazing and such a time saver. I’m gonna try Action. Sounds like it’s not quite as customisable but hopefully close enough.
I moved from Digg to reddit about 15 years ago, before the mass Digg exodus. For the last 5 years I was a paid reddit subscriber, mostly just because it was my most visited site and I wanted to support it.
Immediately after the API announcements, I cancelled my subscription and deleted all my posts. I also deleted most of my comments, and edited some to say I’ve moved to Lemmy. I planned to do that with all of them but I got bored.
There are some niche subreddits I still visit directly because I haven’t found comparable communities, but I barely use the site at all anymore. I’m enjoying Lemmy and have also dipped back into RSS feeds for the first time in about a decade.
Unless something drastically changes, I will never post or comment there again. It’s only a matter of time before I ditch it completely.
I didn’t realize you can have an OS ISO and other programs on the same USB stick. I thought the live boot ISO had to be the only thing on the stick (or multiple ISOs using Ventoy).
Thanks for the tip. I have a random “Pluggable” brand docking station that works fine with Windows but not my Linux laptop, neither with Zorin or PopOS. I get nothing from either monitor and can’t get DisplayLink to properly install on either OS.
I will look into Dell. Do you know of an easy way to tell if DisplayLink is required? I’m looking at this one and don’t see it mentioned:

I’m not sure what that’s about. I tried with lemmy.one and had the same issue. For me it works great with lemm.ee and lemmy.world. Guessing it’s a big that’s hopefully getting worked on.
I just switched from connect to Liftoff. I am liking Liftoff better. Looks nice and I like that comments collapse with one tap, and up/down vote arrows and the reply button are all shown in the comments as a default (rather than having to tap or swipe to see the arrows).
Liftoff also has better formatting options. Here are a few screenshots:
Yes, reddit let’s you delete everything you post but then they secretly repost it all a few days later. I’d argue that’s worse because they make you think it’s deleted but it’s not.
This behavior is demonstrated in the video and many other reddit users have posted similar complaints recently. I have personally experienced the same issue.
When I was in my early 20s I found out my dad isn’t my biological dad. He doesn’t know and I never told him. I agree with this advice and reasoning 100%.
