@s1m0n4 @lgsp @LaVi @ciclismo the government here has already said that there is no panic for oil or gas. Price at the pumps hasn’t changed ( and neither has the price of bottled gas.)
It’s going to take a big shift in political mentality to get the party in power to upset people who drive and vote. Doing it for the betterment of the environment well down the list of considerations, sadly.

@s1m0n4 @lgsp @LaVi @ciclismo It’s an idea, improving the public transport system into a functional fit for purpose network is what they need to do, but it’s the want to do it
The latest scheme is help for everyone to buy either an electric or petrol moped (scooter) rather than a car, that’s a better scheme, because obviously they take less space,.can be used for work, and better connect people. The government here also offered grant’s for bicycles to all (I think that scheme is still going)

I gave up my car when I left the UK 14 years ago. I only drive a hire car when I’m abroad if I absolutely need a car, I haven’t driven on Malta in all the years I’ve been lived here

@s1m0n4 @lgsp @LaVi @ciclismo essentially it is offered to people who are.25 to 50…if you are 18 you do not qualify as you have not been driving for 7 years.
It’s a ridiculous scheme, the public transport here is yes, free to residents. But it is utterly woeful. Cattle going to slaughter get a better journey than most people on a bus!

@s1m0n4 ok, first thing. Yes Labour here has offered €25,000 to drivers to give up their licence. However, you only qualify if:
You are under 50, own a car,
Have been driving in Malta for at least seven years

Reason for the scheme: there are 445,000 registered vehicles in Malta

To date over 100 people have taken up the scheme. It ends July 1st!
