Welcome again to everybody! This is your friendly reminder, growling at the United States from Orbit is praxis Make yourself at home. In the time-honoured tradition of our group, here is our weekly discussion thread!
We have a Matrix homeserver at genzedong.xyz. See this thread for information about our Matrix space.
Short reading list for new MLs here. To find theory, try marxists.org, Anna’s Archive, libgen, or Sci-Hub (for scientific articles). If an article is unavailable, try the Wayback Machine.
Yo can I just say Lemmygrad has been super friendly and welcoming to us and it’s much appreciated.
We’re currently united in our sacred duty of lib dunking, once (if) it cools down some struggle sessions might arise, already seeing some fellow lemmygrad users complaining about ppb
Sorry about the ppb. We’ve discussed toning it down so hopefully you’ll see less of it now
I absolutely didn’t agree to that. If anything we need more and bigger PPBs
It shows up really large if we use the drawn one right?
massive
Yes. I think the union between Lemmygrad and Hexbear has been a positive one for both instances.
oh theres going to be a HUGE anti anarchist push once the main anti liberalism stuff is over, but we’ll smooth it out.
Just keep federating libs once the lemming bots reach their preset defederate limit. There’s enough libs to kick that can really far down the road.
There was a time when I would run away from the stupidity of real life to the virtual - internet, video games, books, even comics. Nowadays, I am more and more often pressed to run away from the stupidity of the virtual and into the embrace of the real. Except real life has only gotten more stupid and disappointing with years. There’s nowhere left run
Same sometimes. Though I managed to find an escape in working at the Union and weightlifting.
We can only try to move on comrade. And at least you are a very welcome person over here.
Thank you
In a better world there would always be the embrace of comrades within walking/biking distance, or even in the communal house with mini flats and large shared areas.
When your options are fight or flight and half that is off thr table you only have one path to take. Crying alone in a fast food resteraunt while everyone pretends to not notice
Me with Games as a Service. The number of spaces you can hide in without someone using cheap psychology to try to coerce you in to buying something is approaching zero.
Still a gem
The headline was misleading FWIW.
Here’s a source of the article (note you won’t find it in English on Western search engines): https://en.mriya.news/103878-baltnews-speaker-of-the-lithuanian-seimas-complained-about-god-helping-russia

very cool
If South Korea is so great, why do they need to literally host a fuck ton of Amerika’s army there.
“Because North Korea is ebil and aggressive and wants to invade and eat all the puppies!” - would be the usual response. Source: my colleague is a koreaboo
In their defense they don’t have a choice.
That is true. If you go far enough left in S. Korea, you’re gonna end up murdered.
Hell Korea?
Hello lemmygrad
greetings, show us your best capybara emojis
I see no capybaras but I will begrudgingly upvote because I am a tankie 👿 👿 👿
A quick search turns these two up, I swear we have more somewhere though
Edit: found a couple of quokkas, which aren’t quite capybaras, but are still pretty cute
Did somebody say tankies?
excellent, excellent
Majestic.
Hey there!
This weekend I will walk in the Pride Parade 🏳️🌈 looking forward to it
I’ve taken up the monumental task of growing a tomato plant in my appartment, and it is showing signs of an actual tomato. If only my pepper seeds would sproud, I may be able to have a home grown salsa soon.
I’ve heard tomatoes don’t grow well indoors, though depending on the climate, it might be a requirement for them.
I’ve had a lot of success with outdoor tomatoes, but I do live in a warm and sunny climate. Best of luck!
Yeah I was planning to grow them outside on a small, flat rooftop I have access to. But the summer here has been very wet and relatively cold (14-15 degrees C most days). And since my appartment has huge windows with lots of lightning, I figured it might have a greenhouse effect lol. So far it seems to be going okay.
Have you tried growing garlic or onions yet? They are easy additions to your indoor garden that would go well with the other ingredients.
Power to your peppers!
No, not yet, but I might try it. It would be cool to have a free supply of onions and garlic!
I FUCKING LIVED BITCH HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Nice to be back on the sane side of the internet, missed you gremlins
Wb comrade! Although, dont you have a lemmygrad account? Surprised you’re not posting from there
I use both now, but hexbear got the funny pictures
hang on guys, I just stumbled in from the bear site. so is this like the equivalent of the hexbear megathread? I’m still really confused about how this federation stuff works
pretty much, except it’s always in the same community
oh sick, you guys can put the hammer and sickle in your username. nice
it’s a unicode character so you can put ☭ in your username on any site
No, there were issues

Probably? I dunno what the bear thread is but this is a weekly post where you can comment whatever
We have a daily megathread that people volunteer to do a short writeup of one topic or another and is placed in whatever comm is appropriate. Then the site uses it as basically a local twitter.
:0 what an interesting custom. I guess this thread isn’t like that then
The comment section of the thread is almost exactly the same except for the the daily vs. weekly aspect. At hexbear there’s a mini essay or something like that as the post body each day but it’s usually not what gets talked about much. People being able to just make a comment about whatever or chatting about what they feel like is the same both places.
I checked out the August 7th thread and yeah you’re right. I wonder how they decide on who gets posting duty for the day

I gotcha. RIP to Chicago furries though
Maybe some people here will enjoy these:
DPRK Architecture of the Future
Woodland Retreat

Moving into my new apartment; it’s a first floor walk up.
Yeah it’s right next to that river that splits after a waterfall and goes in two completely opposite directions. They built the place just to look at it.
What if we kissed under the futuristic DPRK ecosocialism retreat 😳
why the comically large pillars lol
To hold up the comically large spoon inside
I wear an N95 everywhere and I haven’t had a respiratory infection since 2019.
Libs think that I’m full of shit, but I was right about the war on terror, right want global warming, and FFS I’m right about what the mainstream medical research is stating.
Before covid I never got sick and ever since I have been dealing with infections from time to time lol. I think the masks had the opposite effect for me and really affected my immune system.
Still, masks have been such a net positve for society. I wish people continued to wear them more often, especially when they themselves have a cold or anything.
So according to some research, COVID infections cause a lot of problems with your immune system and actually increase the likelihood of getting other infections. I can link the studies is you’re interested. Have you gotten COVID yet? What kind of mask are you wearing?
Mostly the blue standard ones or the medical mask. Only got Covid a couple of months ago when it was largely deemed ‘gone’ over here (it never left, of course).
I’m sure you’re probably aware that the surgical ones don’t protect you much, they’re mostly a cheap and easy way to keep asymptomatic infected people from spreading the disease to others. If everyone was doing surgicals, it’d be great. But if you’re the only one who masks, they don’t filter for your too well.
N95s and FFP2s have a long history of development, they’ve been protecting workers from dangerous dusts for decades, and the science of how they work is really solid. Again, please ask for my sources if you’re interested.

Just wear one properly fitted N95 or equivalent mask. It’ll cut your infection risk down to nearly nil if it fits and is worn properly.
NGL the data is really confusing, since there’s no much research out there and it’s really hard to structure a perfect study during a deadly pandemic. But generally N95s will reduce your risk by 70% or more, while surgicals will reduce it by less than 30%. If you make sure to do a fit test, a N95 is going to protect well above 90%. The main issue with N95 failure is with leakage, if your mask leaks then it will be much less effective.

Neither of those work. You need a rated mask. The US standard is N95 - Filters 99.95% of particles of I think 2.5 microns, and considerably more above and below that number. The KN95 standard I believe is Korean and has a similar filtration level. I don’t know what the equivalent EU standard is.
But medical masks only filter about 40% of the material we’re worried about, and only if they fit right which they mostly don’t.
i get seasonal vaccines generally, i fucking hate being sick
That was never a thing for young people in The Netherlands. Now that I live in Belgium, it is offered to younger people at work as well. Might consider doing it.

They do, just mostly for old people. I never was asked to get one, for example. Meanwhile over here I get asked every year.
hi
I hope you all have a nice week :D
