The group that drafted a key blueprint for Donald Trump’s second term convened a meeting in Washington D.C. this week to consider proposals for bulldozing the European Union (EU).
The Polish investigative outlet VSquare revealed that the Heritage Foundation gathered hardline conservative groups on 11 March to hear how they would overhaul the current structures of the EU.
The “closed-door workshop” featured a debate on a new paper produced by the lobby groups MCC and Ordo Iuris entitled: “The Great Reset: Restoring Member State Sovereignty in the 21st Century”.

It’s not the first and it’s not going to be the last.
Most EU members are small and easy to bully for a country the size of the US if on their own (and in fact many were bullied by the US before becoming EU members) and even the mid-sized ones could be pushed around, but a block of 470 million people with a larger GDP than the US cannot be pushed around just like that, so it’s absolutely in the best interests of the elites which control the US and a very large fraction of its Economy (and hence stand to gain the most from any bullying by the US of other nations) to want to dismantle any association of small and middle sized countries that makes them capable of dealing with the US as equals.
Why do you think it was wealthy Americans who funded the Leave side of the Leave Referendum in Britain (for example, by paying Cambridge Analitica to use Facebook to manipulate people into voting Leave)?! It’s just that, no doubt to their great disappointment, removing Britain from the EU did not significantly weaken the EU, only Britain, and they already had vast influence in British politics so don’t really gain much from Britain leaving the herd to go out all on its own.
Ugh I’m so sick of these Heritage assholes. There’s needs to be an American progressive counter organization.
The Heritage Foundation is a treasonous organization. They need to be stopped. I fail to understand how Project 2025 isn’t outright sedition, and it should’ve been treated that way by Biden.
It’s the whole “they go low, we go high” mantra of liberals.
While in reality they’re going nowhere but the hotel bar.

Are we assuming these groups are just excuses for their own agenda, or would this even be up for discussion had they not received the proposals? Something else?

I can relate for sure. Not to the same degree as you, from what it sounds like, but definitely very worried for the future.
That said, I do believe Europe is more resilient than the US here. And while that has been my main pain point with the EU for a long time, the fact that it’s not very democratic might make it even more resilient to fascist take-over.

Did you see the clips of “Venezuelan gang members” being shipped to El Salvador, who was happy to accept them? In the past few years i saw photos and videos of Russian prisoners and Chinese Uyghurs treated exactly the same way, with outage from the Western media and officials. Now were doing it, too. Instead of seeing those reports as a cautionary tale, MAGA Traitors saw them as a game plan.
People like Kapo Stephen “PeeWee Himmler” Miller and Steve “Unwiped Asshole” Bannon want to treat their American citizen enemies the same way, and worse. Miller has said that he wants to reduce the population of America to 100 million, from its current population of 330 million. The director of the climate denying thinktank The Heartland Institute Lois Perry was spotted in Reform’s head offices celebrating with Nigel Farage after the party hit 205,000 members on social media.
The Heartland Institute was reportedly involved in the radical Project 2025 agenda, which was written as a roadmap for Donald Trump’s controversial second term, and it has been a leading voice in denying scientific evidence of human caused climate change.
So we can suspect that the US is joining Russia against UE because UE is pushing electricity against the oil&gas driven old world.

If you think everything that’s happening in Europe and the US is perpetrated by the Russians, that’s honestly more of an easy way of pretending an ‘other’ outside of the country is responsible, not anyone in the country itself.
Wilders, despite also supporting Russia, is a 100% Dutch phenomenon (starting with Fortuyn at least). These types will use any power they have to attain as much power as they can get; in the Netherlands (with the Dutch electoral system), that’s a bit more difficult than in Hungary. To attain more power, it’s a good idea to have some scapegoat you can make people scared of and rail against constantly: muslims, asylum seekers, recently trans folks. You don’t need ‘Russia’ to explain these authoritarian attacks on minorities.
It’s a form of scapegoating itself, actually, despite there still actually being truth to Russian disinformation and destabilisation campaigns, of course. At the same time, it overinflates Russian abilities, though Romania is worrying.

It’s both. Dividing western societies is the declared foreign policy goal in Russia. Working with right-wing demagogues is the most effective way to achieve this. That doesn’t mean said demagogues wouldn’t be a problem otherwise, but it’s definitely being amplified.
That’s pretty much my view. The extreme right in Europe and the US also forms a collaborative network itself, though, with events like CPAC. I’d be more afraid of the US than of Russia, honestly.
I mean a lot of things are. Russia definitely wants to destabilize the west as much as possible. But like, not literally everything that Russia could do and would benefit them is actually done by them. We gotta focus on the big picture and not get lost in the weeds of, for example, whether Russia is to blame for the Smolensk air disaster, or every single Baltic underwater cable break in the past 2 years.

It’s too bad that “The Great Reset” they have in mind is just tearing down democratic institutions and handing all power to fascists, because a reset that was truly great might be worthy of consideration: All debts cancelled, all bank balances zeroed, all existing copyrights and contracts annulled, ownership of homes falls to those who live in them, ownership of factories and fields are granted to those who work in them, and after a period of great confusion we start again from there.
“Member state sovereignty”. So they’re going to let California leave the shit-show are they?
