Maybe he plays games
Of course he’s playing little games, but what are his goals?
WE are his game
No, I think he’s actually genuine. He’s one of our more progressive politicians and barely made the bar to enter the EP as an independent during last year’s EP elections. I’m honestly glad he made it, he seems like a good egg.
I do vaguely remember reading about some dubious stuff in his family’s history, but can’t find the articles anymore and frankly, other than that his activity was pretty spotless so far.

Maybe Ross was right and politicians think this is an easy w for them as well. Kind of a no brainer for pr.
Yeah, my immediate thought is “what kind of game is he playing?” and immediately thought him sus 🤔
Perhaps The Crew, sounds like the kind of game that makes you support it.
Among us probably?
If this goes through, I expect a closer look will be taken on other predatory practices concerning selling software (which games ultimately are) and possibly a precedent allowing to clearly put a hard stop to American understanding of “copyright” (as a “right to copy”) and full embracement of native European originated “authorship rights”, backed by current existing law for many many years in many of the members states. US anti-piracy organizations will not be happy, so following this line of thought - please prepare for a hard, dirty, unfair fight, with suspicious figures appearing with their backing to sabotage our efforts.
Longshot, but with this said, VP mentions SKG? That’s good, we need publicity! Let them understand we cannot be ignored and you don’t mess with gamers who were trained by their love for gaming to be stubborn, resilient and never give up.
This is important:
… but it’s clear MEPs are becoming aware that they need to engage with the issue and work out where they stand.
I was all-in, because I misunderstood the phrase as meaning “prohibit all games in which people are killed”. Man, do I feel like an idiot.
“Stop Killing-Games”
graphic design note: if you’re gonna highlight every word longer than three letters you might as well not highlight anything. it’s distracting, which is the opposite of what highlighting should do: attract focus.
I love how the world is burning and the people needing to bury their heads in distractions are filing a petition that their distractions need to be protected and remain high quality.
Yes for that we can collect signatures.
Tell you what: why don’t you write down a list of every problem in the world, ordered from most important to least important - and make sure it’s totally objective - and we’ll punish anyone who tries to fix problem 2 while problem 1 is outstanding. Sound good? No, sounds fucking batshit.
Drama queen
I’m not punishing anyone. I’m simply stating that this petition has gotten more attention on Lemmy in the last week than anything climate or authoritarian related.
It makes sense, and I support the cause, it’s because it’s something we can do something about, but the irony is worth noting.
Also you’re not problem 2 on the list, you’re dangling at the bottom end.
But I’m glad your populist response got the upvotes it deserves.
I’m simply stating that this petition has gotten more attention on Lemmy in the last week than anything climate or authoritarian related.
mostly because it’s an European initiative which means educated people in countries with working democracies
antiauthoritarian initiatives need to come from the usa which is full of brainwashed people and a fully corrupt gov
On point!
So, what’s your list? You didn’t answer the question. Could’ve been more constructive by not calling someone a drama queen.
Also you’re not problem 2 on the list, you’re dangling at the bottom end.
And yet here you are.

multiple things are possible
Being the VP of the European Parliament, he speaks about a lot of other stuff too.
They can only one thing a year and this year it is video games.
I understand where you’re coming from, and I can’t blame you in the slightest.
However, I also understand why someone might feel overwhelmed by all the bad stuff happening out there. And we can treat it as an individual moral failure and just complain about how everyone is burying their heads in distraction… or we can treat it as a systemic issue and solve it.
You’ve already made the first step of implicitly asking “why don’t petitions on more pressing issues get traction?”, and now it’s time to look for an answer beyond the simple “bread and circuses”.

Guess we should stop all other things while those problems exist, right?
You are not allowed to complain when someone pissed in your mailbox because fascism is rising. You are not allowed to complain getting stabbed because the planet is dying.
