The shitty/distracting web run on ads, so why not making a search engine which index based on that? You would have an experience similar to what was the internet originally: no corporate shit, no infinite scroll, just independent websites made to share real informations and real knowledge, and would still leave space for subscriptions or donations! And you could still use JS and avoid just using a text browser, making the occasional order from a website or navigating the fediverse!

Is there any tool which does that? The goal would be blocking/avoid indexing all websites connected somehow to ads, is this even something possible? I know it would block 90% of the web, but if that 10% is freedom, I want that freedom!

I’m not sure reality is like you imagine… Blogs were full of ads back in the day. Templates for blogs even had huge areas for ads.
If you want a good search engine try Kagi. I’ve been using it for a long time and cannot go back to anything else, since the results are so good.
And if you want something more curated (old school sites where content is the primary focus) Kagi has Small Web (kagi.com/smallweb). It’s like good old days StumbleUpon.

Not that I know of.
An easier build would be using a pre-approved list of sites known to not be ad-driven. Like, right now if you limited your search to piefed or nostr then that might avoid ads, but instead of doing it one at a time, it would be good to have a way to search a list of known sources like that all at once. This would be limited to the manually added search sources, but it’s really hard to program a system to automatically find all the ad-free sources out there
