The argument the mod writes is 👌

Update : there’s a new one that appears but, I’ve checked, that’s the same mod as the others

Update 2 : got contacted by the mod, overall sweet guy/gal we agree to disagree and keep the ban up, who said that Lemmy cannot be civil

The computers in Star Trek are fictional. They work because the plot needs them too. They do not resemble a large language program because they don’t resemble anything. You might as well say CSI: Miami’s enhance image computer is AI.

The mod who typed that up might as well just declare from the rooftops, “I fell for a Silicon Valley marketing trick of describing software with a sci-fi tropes.”

we agree to disagree and keep the ban up, who said that Lemmy cannot be civil

had a similar interaction with another mod. they weren’t applying the rules unilaterally and temp banned me. I pointed out the hypocrisy/favoritism. they decided to lift the ban. I said, no, ban them too. we both broke the rules. they did it begrudgingly, so I blocked the community.

I refuse to interact with a community where mods begrudgingly apply the rules they’re entrusted with upholding. If I break the rules, so be it. if we break the rules we all are punished, no exceptions.

it’s not like we’re one of the “women only” communities that ban you as soon as you out yourself.

Imagine if the computer on star trek operated the way it does in every episode where the computer is malfunctioning. That’s how real-world “AI” works. You ask to go to the bridge and it keeps sending your ass to engineering and ten forward.

Also: They didn’t even mention Data who is more AI than even the ship’s computer!

After Tesseract and now this, it raises a question. Do people that call themselves conservatives have to always be contrarians?

Literally any topic. There were issues that one would think everyone would agree on and they still surprise you.

They seem contrarian because half their ideas are outdated by centuries and against the modern commom sense.

Sounds a bit circle-jerky, but anarchists and socialists are just arguing “We could fix racism and homelessnes easier my way.” meanwhile conservatives in the back are going “Prove racism exists! Also high homelessnes rates are actually a good thing because…”

Conservative brains typically have larger amygdalas, which are responsible for anger and fear responses. So yes, their brains reward them when they get angry, so they seek more occasions to get angry.

the true AI are usually the holograms, or a robotic race but it seems limited. but they are pretty much not as extensively integrated like the Andromeda series, the ship has an AI that is pretty integrated into all the ships systems(can appear as a hologram or as an android, or upload into multiple robots at once) and perform most of the task the crew requires.

Also Star Trek: Picard added a lot of people who were built by the same guy that built Data

It happens when you post here, you don’t even have to interact with their community. Instead they come here, by their own volition, to be angry about us not liking AI and they then decide to ban every name they come across. This community existing is insult enough for them. Thankfully they self-isolate for the most part.

I got curious and just looked up my profile in the ban log and it seems I am banned as well in a handful of random (same mod in all of them I assume) dbozer communities without having posted in any of them, with the reason given being “Troll account” (no mention of AI).

So yup, just a power mad mod being cultish about their AI-slop, who probably just banned anybody who posts in here.

Techbro oligarchs would love nothing more than for you to use AI because it ultimately turns your brain into soup from its sycophantic behaviour. Many cases of AI psychosis have appeared and a lot of stories of suicides spurred on by LLMs have come out.

The billionaires push LLMs on everyone because it’ll turn you into political cattle. Locally run models won’t help you because the problems don’t come from the fact that other models are run on their private servers, it comes from the effects of prolonged AI usage.

I never trust taxi drivers who use an electronic map. Taxi drivers should know all of the streets by heart, and be able to accurately predict road congestion, like they did in the good old days. By using this evil navigation technology, their spatial awareness withers and it is just a shame.

I mean, it is true that if you don’t use a GPS or an electronic map that you do develop a better awareness of your surroundings and the street mapping. Same way using a guide to something doesn’t let you really remember and commit to memory the task you’re doing.

It’s just that AI exacerbates that tendency tenfold, because you don’t even have to follow a guide if the guide does it for you.

nothing in your comment indicated sarcasm. unless you’re brand new to the Internet you should know perfectly well that pure-text communication lacks the fidelity to indicate that. this is why so many times over the age of the internet people have tried to add in a way to communicate that either with “/s” or SaRcAsM/mOcKiNg CaSe, or italics sometimes, someone once even tried to make a sarcasm mark

I said nothing to cheapen taxi drivers or their profession. I respect and appreciate it a great deal, especially with examples of them unionizing. That doesn’t change the fact that the profession does not create a thing. I find it disingenuous that you would suggest that not calling a profession creative would diminish it.

Garbagemen, for instance, is a profession that is very much worth respecting but also which does not create anything.
