This is why I don’t understand why the DSA is trying to work within the DNC. The DNC has made it clear that they’d rather let the Republicans win than give Leftistst a chance.
The Democratic base sits comfortably to the left of its leadership, so sometimes DSA candidates win the primaries (more and more these days too). That’s useful for raising the contradictions within the party, it forces party leadership to reveal how much they hate their own base. If the goal is to split the party and take every dissatisfied Democrat with them on their way out, it’s a good strategy.
I worry they think they can actually take over the party from the inside with insurgent candidates, though, and that won’t work.
iirc they’re split between a few factions including actual entryists (derogatory) and ones that think forcing a split will benefit the further left.
i think breaking the democratic party is worth a shot and it would probably be good for revolutionary movements even though bourgeois electoralism is a dead end in and of itself.

There are surely some (many? ) who think this, but it seems like most (including Hasan, their lead propagandist) have the first view you presented.
The Democratic party is just a bunch of wealthy donors at it’s core, ofc. Even if DSAers got the upper hand in Democrat leadership, that core donor base would be the ones to pull out. Less likely to happen, but if it magically worked out that way, it is still a win for the broader left

Structurally, I don’t know if they can do a purge. The party doesn’t have many mechanisms to discipline its members.
