But smoking is to a degree a choice. Tobacco isnt like heroin. You can quit it cold turkey . And YES I GET IT its a hard addiction to defeat , weve known this for like half a century now… but it can be defeated with enough time and patience away from tobacco.
But kids are not a choice you can or can not take care of once you have produced them. Personally I feel that the modern economy makes it so that EVERYONE should be discouraged from having kids cause the hours and pay that person has to work these days in most places is nonsensical. So I dont get why we STILL have so many cultures that continue to peer pressure people into having ‘band-aid babies’ or ‘young-love, straight-outta-college babies’ but thats just me. Only choice you have when youre having a child is to abort or not and to give them up to adoption or not. After that? Youre only options are ‘take care of them when you have the time to’ (break time) or ‘watch them destroy your life, your community , and their lives’ ’
Its more like you avoid the substance( like alcohol addiction or nicotine or whatever youre addicted to ) or the pracetice (whether that be gambling addiction or self-harming addiction or whatever) and find that it doesnt impact your life . You dont ever truly ‘defeat’ an addiction. You just significantly taper its impact to your life.
Pretty sure hospitals keep some alcohol on hand in case a severe alcoholic is going through withdrawals as that can be deadly. They don’t keep cigarettes on hand. Unsure about other hard drugs. If a parent decided to quit parenting we call that abandonment or child abuse and put them in jail. These are not the same.
Truly, i do think it an intentional product of, from my limited perspective, the american education system - we’re trained against taking action, and instead to only ever dare to request and maybe potentially receive at the whim of whoever is in authority
Bathroom and hall passes, “dead lines” and due dates, raising hands to speak, etc
Some of it is certainly practical, but, the result is somebody getting mad at another for taking a break because they didnt have corpo-daddy say they could
If you want a break, and know the business’s or whoevers you care about’s goal wont fail if you did so, then be a free person who controls themselves, and take the break
I knew a guy at my old workplace who could just take unlimited breaks and thats what he did. They werent super long though. Like 20 or 30 minute breaks every 2 or 3 hours depending on what he felt like.
Felt like I was seeing the twilight zone when I saw him doing that…
That’s what I did at my last factory job. Go out on smoke breaks, walk around the parking lot until the break is over.
Nobody ever called me on it, but just in case I always had a vape I picked up off the side of the road ready to claim it was my reason for being out with the rest.
Kids are understandable. What (mildly) annoys me is the free pass for smoke breaks.
Id say its about the same.
UNO reverse card: Kids are a choice, smoking is an addiction.

You don’t “defeat” an addiction. You always will be an addict, just one that stopped using the substance.
Ah youre correct. Im wrong. Sorry.

Good, you shouldn’t get a break specifically for fostering an addiction.
Smoke or kids or the want to scratch your bunghole, you should be able to take whatever breaks you want as long as the work gets done.
Sure, but it’s pretty commonplace to offer smoke breaks with no equivalent breaks being offered to non smokers. It’s stupid as shit.
You’d be surprised how many breaks you can get if you just start taking them.

Yeah, a lot of ‘smoke breaks’ aren’t officially sanctioned by the company. The smokers just take them, and what’s the company going to do about it?

Just join them and stand outside for 5 min.
Just not downwind of the cancer-stench

Can you put the empty vodka bottle down for a minute and type out an understandable response?

But, as a rule, I don’t really like blowing smokers. Smoker cum legit tastes much worse than normal.
Exactly!
