The term “tankie” was originally used by dissident Marxist–Leninists to describe members of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) who followed the party line of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). Specifically, it was used to distinguish party members who spoke out in defense of the Soviet use of tanks to crush the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and the 1968 Prague Spring uprising, or who more broadly adhered to pro-Soviet positions.

      Wow TIL. Thanks!

PS. joined the Lemmy.ml instance and have received nonstop personal attacks for asking questions like that. Think I may have chosen the wrong instance. I really appreciate your response.

It’s because currently the term “tankie” is a very nebulous buzzword basically meaning “everyone left of me” and really being just liberal equivalent of how conservatists use “woke”. So when you ask the users of it to define it, they simply can’t, so they react with their usual modus operandi. Anyways, if you want to know more about communism, you’re welcomed to hang with us.

lemmy.ml was fine before reddit pissed off their shitlib base by restricting use of their api without payment

that brought a flood of shitlibbery straight to lemmy.ml which turned it into what it is now practically overnight

What’s weird is that I’ve been banned in a couple forums just for trying to understand why everyone is pissed off. Thanks for the info, glad it’s not me.

Weren’t you the genocider-supporting lib with such bangers as:

“I say a thing and then the reactionaries descend to tell me that I’m wrong” in response to being told that without investigation, you have no right to speak?

“People who say “Well I’m Muslim and it bothers me that Biden supports Israel so I won’t vote for him” have to be completely out of touch with reality or are completely fake.” in response to your VOOT BLOO horseshit getting resoundingly thrown back in your face by those who’ve got the most to lose by repping that cracker?

This was you, right? It sounds to me like you should know why everyone’s pissed off by now. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s your siiiiiiiiiign…

I think your ephithets proved my point better than I did.

In the end, I asked what alternative people proposed to Biden. There was no response, just personal attacks.

Lo and behold, still playing the civility lib bit. Your writer’s a hack. Anyway; the alternative is walking away from the duopoly and preparing our communities for whatever happens as a result of the abdication. We don’t owe your man our support; considering we see the same genocidal fascist regardless of which color tie occupies the White House. The only difference is in how blatantly telegraphed it is anymore. I’m not going to immediately speak for all my comrades like that; but I know I’d rather abstain and contribute to the death of the Empire than continue legitimizing genocidal old white men.

And I know you were told this, in no less than three different ways. You just don’t listen. And that’s why people are pissed off.

lol I just love the part where only your viewpoint is valid

Believe it or not, I came in here in good faith hoping to have conversations and learn. I was not prepared for the projected insecurity from so many who are the keepers of the super special knowledge that makes them important people

you and others have convinced me that this instance is toxic and to move elsewhere. I return you to your regularly scheduled bubble.

For the United States, look at what the PSL is doing. They have a pretty clear outline for what their objectives are and what they intend to do if they gain power if you do some research. Look at what China has been capable of doing recently. Laws of physics in china apply everywhere in the world, so the cool technological projects and scientific advancements can be done anywhere if you don’t let those capitalist parasites rule your government.

Also defending your commmunity with redistribution networks is a noble cause that is possibly as wise as investments in the stock market in previous generations, please don’t be so rude and dismissive.

The truth is there is no major group with significant political power that represents the workers for those in the states. We communists don’t put our faith in institutions that we don’t see as serving our interests. For these reasons, the best we can do is think for ourselves and come up with particular solutions wherever our working hands can touch the earth. Usually that means joining a party, but whatever parties exist still don’t have much power, however it seems a better use of time than cheerleading for the political party that kept on promising things people want when actually all they do is concede to those fascist Republicans.
