I have seen some wild cats around my house do the same thing (step into previous steps). I would say that’s instinct for survival. Not to leave tracks I guess.
As @Gaywallet@beehaw.org said, it’s to reduce the noise, but the other things in the video isn’t normal for a cat (the Rubic Cube killed me 😂)
Cats do this, not just in snow, because it reduces noise. Stepping on the same patch of grass you already flattened is quieter than flattening a new patch of grass.
